I Like To Visit Cemeteries · 2:06pm Jul 25th, 2017

I Like To Visit Cemeteries

Well, this will probably make me sound like sort of a weirdo, but I actually like cemeteries a great deal. I like visiting cemeteries in different cities and even various cemeteries in the city I live in.

There is just something very peaceful about cemeteries (to me). And it is kind of fun to imagine what the people there used to be like. Especially the people from the 1900s or earlier.

Because I have visited lots of cemeteries, I have definitely seen my share of interesting paranormal activity. But it doesn't really scare me either. I also find it kind of peaceful.

I guess I am just a little weird. :P

But apparently there are other people who like to visit cemeteries as well. I found a community of them on Reddit. The term a person who likes to visit cemeteries is apparently a 'tombstone tourist'. Other named include, 'cemetery enthusiast', 'cemetery tourist', 'grave hunter', 'graver', or 'taphophile'. So perhaps I am not so different after all. ;P

With all the weird stuff we've heard, you can't get any weirder.😆

Fun Fact: In that Monster City I write about I sometimes nap in a vacant grave and one of my friends there sleeps in a coffin.

4612259 lol That sounds like fun.

Some coffins in real life are very elaborate and do look comfy. But I'm not sure if I could nap in one. :P

Well, it's not as if any of the inhabitants are going to to make any noise.

I go to cemeteries for research for my writting and to talk to the dead. Most of the time the dead tell me to get a job.

4612262 You make a good point there. :P

4612263 That's is interesting that you find inspiration from cemeteries.

What kind of things does visiting cemeteries inspire you to write?

4612261
On Earth, if they put in a few air holes, make them capable of leaving from the inside, and a few more things, a lot of people would like it XD

4612276 There are real people who sleep in coffins. Usually people in the 'vampire' community have coffin beds. But there are other people who just like sleeping in coffins for the novelty.

Y'know what. Here's a new rule of the internet.

"If it's realistic and make-able, it's on sale somewhere."

I usually like to try and find oldest grave. Though the pre-19th century graves are rare and usually hard to read. Still fun to see graves since some would have honorific for people who visited holy place or some would have a communist star to show their commitment even in death.

And hey would you like to check out famous graveyards around the world? Like there is WW1 Allied Soldiers graveyard called Zeitenlik in Tessaloniki, Greece and has graves of people from across many nations of Europe (though in case of British it might be the world?). If you do visit say hi to the cemetery keeper Đorđe, if he is alive. Kind old grandpa whose family has been guarding the graves since the 1920.

You reminded me of a story that happened to someone in nearby village/town outskirts. One guy got so drunk and he fell asleep in the local graveyard. That morning another guy was passing by and he looked at the graves and had said:
*sigh*"You guys are lucky, don't have to get up for work."
Drunken guy wakes up and gets up:
"Oh damn, thanks for reminding me."

And the passerby ran like crazy after seeing dead rising.

Well, cemeteries are indeed peaceful, but at night it tends to be scary.

I'm going to New Orleans, where all the graves are on the surface

4612280 Hasn't that always been the rule of the internet? :rainbowlaugh:

4612297 I would love to visit grave yards around the world one of these days! I will be sure to say hello to the old groundskeeper if I ever find myself in that part of the world. :)

4612327 Yeah during the day they aren't very intimidating. But during night they can be a bit creepy. :P

Although I have visited some cemeteries during the evening hours. :0

4612350 That's awesome! I have always wanted to visit New Orleans. :)

4612390
I'll let you know what it's like Lyra :)

4612397 Yay! You should take lots of pictures. ;)

4612409 Cool! I can't wait to see them. XD

4612421
I'll be sure to show you Lyra :)

I don't mean to burst your bubble but going to a graveyard is the last thing I want to go, especially late at night :twilightoops:

4612460 Fair enough. Visiting cemeteries is not for everyone. :)

Details regarding dungeon action sequences. Some ideas about questioning ghosts for information. There is also that one time that I was reminded of that one scene in the movie Hellboy where Hellboy goes through a massive ancient Russian Necropolis to search for a body that has the right conditions to be reanimated so he can ask the local dead Russian for directions to a sort of labyrinth.

Don't believe me? Here take a look.

4612489 That's awesome! It is great that graveyards can inspire you in so many different ways. :)

4612949 I am happy that you think so. :)

4613233

By this point i am not surprised anymore

4613458 You just expect me to be a weirdo, I assume? :P

4613471 I'm so happy that you noticed. XD
