Well, I've finally settled in.

We uprooted from our slow, boring, dull, uneventful, borderline-useless town and moved closer to the city. Opportunity is everywhere, and culture is everywhere else. For the first time in a long while, I actually look forward to leaving the house. There are places to go! Things to do! You just don't have that in our old hometown. Myself, the girlfriend, the five-year-old... We're all feeling more alive than we have in a long, long time.

Oh, I guess I can't call her "girlfriend" anymore. A week after the move, I kinda... proposed.

So yay for us.

Heh... From my blog posts it probably seems like I'm the type who falls too hard too fast and can't make up my mind, eh? Well, that's half-right. I do fall too hard too fast. The problem is that I actually made my mind up three or four years ago, before I'd even joined this site, but life got in the way on her end first, and then on mine. Now, though? Now we stop lying to ourselves out of fear of losing what we have. Now I stop trying to fill the hole in my heart with the love of others, only to hurt them in the end. I'm so sorry... Now is the time to look to the future, and to the life she and her our son, and maybe even I someday, deserve. Two fine ladies and a little boy, on a whirlwind adventure called living!

Oh, and on top of that I'm finally trying to publish my first commissioned story! I actually finished it on the tenth of May. First I was waiting until the commissioner had managed to read it... Then came the move... You know the drill. Always something to keep us busy when we need the barest hint of free time. Well, hey. It's here now!

The Story of Sleeping Bear was written for Multiversecruise's Three Tribes universe. I've seen a few other stories written for that universe here on Fimfiction. Perhaps there's a group or something I should add this to. We'll see. In any case, what kind of story is this? In the vein of canon events that combine pony culture with natural history, like Winter Wrap-Up or the Running of the Leaves, I was asked to explore one of the many answers to one of the many-er questions that make up the world—questions about specific phenomena like the blooming of seasonal flowers or the reason behind weather patterns or even the change of the color of a rabbit's pelt. Since this is an aspect of the early seasons of Friendship is Magic that I feel is sorely lacking nowadays, it seemed like a prompt I could really sink my teeth into. I decided I'd tackle the reason why some trees lose their leaves during the winter while others do not.

Multiversecruise asked for five thousand words. I wrote eleven thousand. :twilightsheepish: The other six thousand were free of charge, partly because it was my own decision to expand it and partly because writing this was fun! The end result, of course, is the Story of Sleeping Bear. Humans because humanized universe; pre-agricultural-revolution because industrialization just gets in the way and the combustion engine is the worst. While it's not a setting I often indulge in, I hope you like it regardless once it passes moderation; I'll tag and link it in this blog once it does. Until then, those interested can keep their eyes peeled just enough to notice a new story... but not enough to dry them out and all that no-fun stuff, haha.

Well, I think that's it for me... Thanks for reading my blogs, let alone my stories. I hope to write a few more (of these blogs as well as stories, I'm sure) once we find a routine here in the new home, and I'm still more than happy to take on a few more commissions.

Have fun out there, everyone. I'll see you 'round the site.

Hey, congrats on the engagement! :D (I assume she said yes or you'd not be so excited about announcing it.)
