EG Specials · 5:44pm Jul 5th, 2017
I just watched the EG specials. Before I start, from this point on, consider The Green Leaves of Everfree to be taking place after these specials.
Dance Magic
I find it strangely convenient that the prize will give the Rainbooms 4x the money they need. Oddly specific, especially if you consider that 2 teams are starlit.
I did like seeing the CPA girls again, and having them show a bit more depth in their character.
I saw the "stealing idea" thing from a mile away. Also, the working together thing. Again, 4x the money is a little specific, giving both teams 2x the money to share.
Also, I noticed something. In the final shot of the song when they're in their final pose, Fluttershy, in her pony form, has no wings. I'm dead serious, look back at it when you get a chance. The animators totally overlooked that. Twilight and Rainbow Dash do have their wings, just fyi.
The song was okay, I guess. All the MLP songs sound the same to me at this point.
Horribly predictable, but I think it was alright for what it was.

Movie Magic
Juniper was the most obvious villain ever.
Nice callback to the power ponies though.
Why do only Twilight and Rainbow have their geodes?
Um... I don't like how the whole mystery was solved in the blink of an eye. Literally. One scene transition and immediately everything was solved. And how did Twilight know all of this? I know she's smart, but... still. And Juniper's reasons are really selfish. Satisfying to see her get banned from the set though,
Not bad, but the plot holes in this one really got on my nerves. Not saying these shorts have to be perfect, but it seemed a little too easy when Twilight went all Velma on us and magically pieced everything together.
5/10
Mirror Magic
I seriously hate Juniper. She's so selfish and ignorant.
Nice how Sunset and Starlight got to meet. I actually really like Starlight's EG design. She looks cute.
Evil Juniper to me seems like Gaea Everfree 2.0. Seriously. It's the same magic. I find it amusing how everyone was using their phone to take pictures of Juniper. Says a lot about our society nowadays.
Also, inconsistencies with Fluttershy's barrette.
This was the best of the specials, easily. I really likes Starlight's development. She needed more of it, and I think Hasbro is starting to realize it. I really like how Starlight reached out to Juniper with empathy, even if the turnaround was a bit quick.
8/10
Forgive me if my thoughts were cynical. That's just how my brain works.
Overall, not bad. I think I understand the Starlight hate though, because Juniper. I still don't like her. But I actually like Starlight quite a bit now. Hasbro's starting to give her the spotlight more, and that's what they need to do to make us like her. Show us what she does, and not tell us. But I've talked about that enough.
Anyways, I think they did alright for what they were. Now I've got some ideas for the next few chapters of The Green Leaves of Everfree. Again, consider the setting of the post-camp chapters to be after these specials.
Have a great one, and thanks for sticking with me! Hopefully I'll have some more content for The Green Leaves of Everfree out for you guys soon.
Oh you're fine. Everyone's entitled to their opinions.
And yes, SHOW don't TELL. That's still something Hasbro needs to learn if they're ever going to get a majority of fans to like her. Telling us, isn't going to work. Show us by her actions!
And as always, I can't wait to read more of Green Leaves of Everfree. Hopefully Coppermane will recover soon.
And as another always, let me know when you've got the time to finish our next SA chapter. It was nice to finally talk to you.
...I thought they specified that the prize money would be more than twice what they needed, not four times what they needed.
4593042
Twilight's line was they'd have 4x the amount they'd need to donate to Camp Everfree. I'm pretty sure that was her line, anyways.
4593063 ...gah. I'll rewatch it next chance I get. Or check the transcript at the wiki, whichever.
Are the specials now in english?
The numbers actually confused me on my first viewing, but here's the deal. Twilight said they had half the money they needed, and the prize money was 4 times THAT amount, so even after spending all of their cash on hand for costumes, they would wind up with twice what they needed. So after splitting it with the CPA girls it works out perfectly.
