Pony POV Series Suggestion and Charm Spell · 5:00pm Jun 26th, 2017

An important note of any mental suggestion magic in the pony pov verse, it has to be phrased in a way that sounds reasonable to the subject. You can't suggest someone to throw their life away in a battle with a red dragon, but you can suggest to them to "hold it off" for "just a few moments" to let their friends get away.

Also, it can't be something that would utterly inconceivable for that person to do. A craven coward would NEVER sacrifice their life for ANYONE. And a pacifist wouldn't help 'cull the population to controllable levels in one night.'

Also, suggestion is different form charm. A charm spell makes a subject see you as they would a dear friend. And so asking a guard to give you his sword wouldn't work with suggestion as the guard has no motive to give a random stranger his sword.

Inversely, if you're already friends with a guard, or is charmed, a suggestion spell or request for them to give you their sword in the middle of a battle not to be as questioned or unreasonable, you wouldn't want your friend to be unarmed in the middle of a fight now would you?

This is why some of Moonlight's mental suggestions to Applejack went off without a hitch, while others she rejected no matter how many times Moonlight tried.

I don't quite remember that scene, who's Moonlight again?

One of Luna's avatars.

Got it, thanks.

Reading this makes me thankful that in both your and the canon Equestria they don't have some of the uglier enchantment/charm spells they've made in the Pathfinder game. Like terrible remorse AKA the 'commit suicide' spell or murderous command -- "Kill the person standing next to you immediately!"

Chrysalis would probably love them, though.

Sounds like Chrysalis' kinda thing.
