Snowflake Dissonance

Honestly, probably only here to read, and write, fanfiction about Sunset Shimmer and the Dazzlings. Also, canon is my clay and I shall shape it as I wish.

    Update on Past Scars

Man, it's been a while... Anyway, for anyone who has noticed that I'm updating the Dazzling Sunset series, I just wanted to let you know that Past Scars will be getting another new chapter between Changing Norm and Worth to help the story

    No Excuses

Yeah, I just randomly disappear at this point. I've tried slowing it down, stopping it, I dunno man. I'm just bad at remaining in one place for long. However, I do have some things in mind now that the new year is properly under way.

    I hate the flu

I was working on a request, trying to fix it, and the next chapter for Compatibility and I fall freaking sick because my sleep schedule got messed up (through circumstances unrelated to the request and update). I just want one year where I can write uninhibited. I'm gonna take some meds and try to sleep it off for a few days.

    Inspiration Why?

I am 10.5k words into a fic that's purely for self-gratification and yet I am:
200 words into the next chapter of Divine Intervention,
500 words into the next chapter of One and the Same Thing,
1783 words into the next chapter of A Packed Crowd, and
30 words into the next chapter of Compatibility
Why is inspiration such a dick to me...

Siren Shipping · 11:51am May 9th, 2017

I am convinced I could find a reason to ship Adagio with literally everyone in EQG. And I know I say that a lot in order to make people understand why they shouldn't ship hate (it's fucking rude, don't do it somewhere someone who enjoys that ship will see it, that's just a dick move), but I'm being legitimate this time. I could find a legit reason (based on perception of character and inference of characterization of course, not everyone sees her the way I do) to ship her with any of them. And I could probably do the same with Aria and Sonata, too. They're just so shippable. Same goes for when I start watching FiM. I could probably find a reason to ship each of them with everyone there too (I mean, that remains to be seen, of course, but I probably could).

I love these three dorks. They my fave

I really agree with you there! There's a lot of interesting ships you can create with the Dazzlings! :pinkiehappy:

Some ships are much more credible than others, I think. Some I can hardly see working at all.

For a brief disclaimer: I don't mean for clop. In clop terms, anything works, because it doesn't really have to hold up to scrutiny.

But in character-driven romance/shipping stories, well...

Sundagio is an obvious one. Adagio is pretty much villain Sunset done properly, with practical solutions improvised on the fly, an ego that never gets in the way, slightly more of a view of the other two as teammates rather than henchmen, a plan that actually comes close to working and doesn't rely on everyone else being idiots, etc. Not to mention the image of her being pretty with pale amber skin and big orange-ish hair, and her losing everything at the end of the film. So those two work. Although I'd challenge you to find the definitive Sundagio story - for such a widespread pairing, there isn't one big work that really sells it.

Adarity again seems obvious, as they're both a bit more aloof and upper class, with clear attention paid to outfits. Although I don't think Adagio would ever let spoiling her clothes hold her back; it varies whether Rarity would. Also Adagio is hardly Element of Generosity material. Again, for such an obvious ship, there aren't actually many stories that focus on it and do it well.

Flutterdagio would be the least realistic ship imaginable were it not for one story. I never would have believed it before reading that one. And yet it completely works. And Fluttershy is traditionally the first to stick up for enemies/former enemies, so the notion that she'd be the one to try to help the sirens after their downfall again is reasonable.

Adagipie is a stretch for me. It's a feature of one very good story, but even then I'm not sure I buy the romance. About all they have in common is the big hair thing. I think Adagio would mostly find Pinkie as annoying as Sonata, and thus never hang out with her by choice.

Adashio I've never found convincing, ever. They're fantastic as rivals, but I can't see Adagio stooping to Rainbow's intellectual level, or showing the slightest interest in sports, and I think Rainbow would see Adagio as too girly, reminding her of Rarity.

Appledagio? Eenope. Cannot think of a single attribute either of them possess that would appeal to the other, other than perhaps mutual admiration of determination.

Sunaria I could see, absolutely, if people only looked out from behind their Sundagio glasses. Aria would be closer to villain Sunset, I think, being a bit more impulsive and hands-on.

Arijack I think could work quite well, as they can both be quite focused in their supporting roles. Applejack and Sugarcoat are an obvious match, and I think Aria is closer to that type of brutal honesty than the other Dazzlings.

Fluttaria, weirdly enough, kind of works, for the same reason as Flutterdagio, but even more extreme. Crackshipping And You did a good idea for them, with Aria as Fluttershy's knight in Twilight's brother, and there were a couple of Mythrilmoth ones that were discontinued but could have been promising. They almost have a Celestia/Luna vibe, only if Luna were the elder sister.

Aridash I'm not so sure about. "Or my lead" suggests loyalty isn't Aria's priority, and I think Rainbow's ego would just remind her of the worst of Adagio.

Aripie I haven't even thought enough to reject; I don't think there's much in common there.

Arity does have the best couple shortened name, I'll give them that. But again, Rarity would remind Aria of the things she hates about Adagio, and Aria would remind Rarity of the things she hates about Rainbow.

Sonpie of course crops up everywhere. They'd be best friends (if not more), and those two are probably the best hope of the sirens and the Rainbooms ceasing hostilities. As a ship it's perhaps overdone, but that's because it makes so much sense.

Sondash I don't know about. I mean, they're both blue, and I'm sure Sonata would love being competitive, even if she never actually won. I can't really see them catching each other's eye, though.

Sonarity does work. Rarity might remind Sonata of Adagio in a good way, having the haughtiness but without the nastiness. One guesses Sonata is in the habit of being pushed around, and Rarity might do that in a nice way.

Applata I'm not at all sure about. I think Applejack would see Sonata as frivolous and silly, like Apple Bloom but more so. And I can't see Sonata approaching hard work with anything but whining.

Sonshy could work, I suppose, with Fluttershy in almost a caretaking role, but I'm less certain.

Sunata. We've all read that story, after all. I don't buy it. Unless Sonata receives a massive intelligence upgrade, I can't see her appealing to Sunset. And I think Sunset's newfound good-girl approach would just be infuriating anytime Sonata wanted to have fun.

Can't see any of them with Sci-Twi because, come on, sirens have standards!

And the sirencest ones:

Adaria obviously works, as does Sonaria. The third pairing not so much. I can't think of anything about Sonata that would appeal to Adagio.

Boom, analysis done, sorry about that.

4529830  I can concede to that, but all I ever need is a single reason to ship. All I gotta do is reformat my character interpretations or look at them from a different angle and I can think of a reason they would be together.
