    Quick Update

I do apologize for not getting the next chapter of The Light of a Candle out, but I've been preparing for the upcoming move and just haven't made the time to write. I've been debating on which perspective to go with and it's been kind of annoying.

Chapter 20 Update (I promise, it's the last one)

Chapter is now being beaten to death like the dead horse topics we love to argue over. Pick a topic, and I'll drag out the corpse.

    Should be out tonight!

    Chapter 20 Update

3300 words so far. I haven't forgotten. There were some changes I wanted to work through for one of the characters. I was not happy with the original concept and decided to delve a bit into Greek myth for inspiration. I hope you like it when I do publish the chapter. It's not done. There's one last bit to do for it before I ship it off to my editors for ridicule. I do apologize for the delay, but

Question for my Russian and Eastern Europe Readers · 6:56pm Apr 17th, 2017

What does this taste like, in your opinion?

I ask because I've never had canned borscht before. I know the homemade version would be better, but our characters are, for the moment, in lockdown and cooked meals aren't exactly on the list of priorities. No, they're not being mistreated, in case you were wondering, just left to get used to each other.

I've always found the Russians I've met to be very friendly and fun to hang around, in case ya'll were wondering. I've always been curious about their food. I've been told some of the canned stuff could be considered an act of courage to eat, but I'd rather get the opinions from people who might have it more often.

Thanks in advance!

I expect it to sour and salty, if you want my thoughts on what to expect.

Russian here and I believe you are not likely to find many Russians who had tried something like this. A different approach and outlook on home cooked food coupled with cost of canned soup lead to its failure on Russian market back in the 90s.

Now considering that borscht is extremely sensitive to the quality of beetroot that you use and can go south even home cooked with a bad one, I would suggest keeping away form a canned version. Especially if you have not tried it before.

4499846 That was what I was expecting. You can't beat home cooking. Thanks!

If you want your characters live on purchased food, i suggest sausages and pasta. It's relatively cheap and fast to cook. And, if they don't have time to even this, you often can find ready meal in many stores. Cheap and not bad. Cheaper than in a cafe.
Sorry for the grammar.

No canned borsch here. Its very delicate and time-consuming dish, so it cant be distributed via canned method. Simple dishes like cooked canned fish, meat, vegetables, fruits are present on the market. And they are good, but meat variety has some element of randomness.

So, your characters are in the territory of the Russian secret site in this case characters are forced to eat canned food... It looks strange. Secret sites in Russia have their own lines of supply, including food. I am sure that local cooks will be able to provide them with hot meals at any time. Considering that Putin is very courteous politician (and fan of Chryssie as we know it from previous story), I won't be surprised if they will be provided with food of top quality.

4499885 It actually has nothing to do with the cuisine as more to do with making two people learn to live together.

The Russians are not happy about it. They want to treat them like honored guests, but agreements between governments are a bitch sometimes.

Don't worry, they'll get real Russian cooking soon enough!

Might make adjustments from your comment, though. Looks intriguing.

Yuck, canned borsht. Haven't even seen it. I live close, in Poland, and canned soup isn't popular at all, if anything they're in plastic bowls, bags, frozen in bags, powdered.

4499885 I would also like to add this is new territory for me, so I am going to make mistakes. I need you guys to keep me from falling on my face too much! :rainbowlaugh:
