Season 7 Premier Thoughts · 4:38pm Apr 15th, 2017
So here's the deal. I wasn't sure what to expect when coming into this season. Maybe it'd be good. Maybe not so much. Which direction would the show take? But, after watching it...
(Yes, that was a thing that happened)
Check below if you want to know my thoughts. Very minor, if any spoilers.
It was awesome!
Starlight, Trixie and Discord all had fantastic moments. The humor and characterization was top notch, just like always. But, way more important than that...
Spike was gold! Once again serving as the voice of reason and throwing in the random moment of humor to keep everyone on their toes. It was fantastic.
Great ready friends, it's gonna be a great season!
With much love,
Famous
Normally, I'm like "eh" with Spike but really...
He was the funniest character of the first two episodes, along with Trixie. He was phenomenal.
I hate how much I loved that song in the second episode. No song that generic should be so damn catchy.
4497184 I'm right there with you, bro. I started out like "Man, this is so unnecessary here" and then I was like "...I needed that in my life."
I'm with you here. I'm glad to see Spike isn't only the comic relief anymore. Other things I was happy to see over the course of the two episodes (in no particular order):
—The more 'casual' side of Celestia (i.e. laughing her ass off, and "I wasn't aware my name was an expression, though it is appropriate.")
—Trixie, though 'reformed,' is still essentially a bitch at heart
—Changelings given voices
—Pinkie being Pinkie. Shouldn't be surprised, but I'm always happy to see her antics
—A friggin' Escape the Room
—The metahumor ("They'll probably go on a mini-adventure and then sing a song.")
—Bulk Biceps is a jack-of-all-trades
Only thing I'm not really happy about is basically what a bunch of other people were afraid of: there's a very real possibility of Starlight basically stepping into Twilight's role as the main protagonist from what I can see... but we'll see.
I alternated between screaming "Celestia has a real personality" and "I don't care about you, Sarlight." But I liked it.
4497191 Eh, he's only got a few jobs, so I'd say Bulk Biceps is only a jack of a few trades.
Also for my thoughts on the episodes, I feel the same way. The Celestia characterization was a total godsend, and I liked the second episode apart from the song and the fact that it felt like the Mane 6 didn't really need to be there for any reason besides filling out the episode's runtime.
Good start to season 7, and kind of a neat change from the usual two-part premiere formula. This season is looking to be a good one!
4497543 So wait... are you Bulk Biceps?
