IN WHICH TIME IS WASTED?
Yes, this is my second blogpost today (even though I did the first one before going to sleep, the calendar doesn't lie). I generally dislike making multiple posts on the same date, but sometimes it just works out that way.
I want to ask my readers who actually write stories — Do you ever find yourself doing an absurd amount of research into some minor detail that probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things? Because that's what I've been doing since getting home this afternoon. And it's all because I wanted to describe a føcking brooch.
It started with looking into the name for the shape of said brooch, which turned into a search for flowers that resembled it, then a visit to a site about "flower language" to see if I might could find any interesting parallels (I did), as well as a look into pre-Abrahamic religious iconography, and some entry-level Buddhist stuff for colour information. Then I started wondering if diamonds can easily be cut into a rhomboid shape; different minerals/gems have different cleavage styles based upon their composition (yay geology). I think the answer is yes.
Sigh. The things I do for my readers. Or for me? I don't know. I probably need to be locked in one of those rooms with padded walls, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see those nice young ladies in the clean white suits.
Perhaps this is progress? We'll see. Peace out!
