Way more regarding my Lyra and Bon Bon Series than you care about · 4:38pm Mar 3rd, 2017
Oh, so if I tag My True Self instead of the sequel that I just published, then the system will inform the folks who favorited My True Self about this blog post? Ah… I’ll figure this place out yet.
It’s time for another day in the life of the Equestrian couple whose love makes even Princess Cadance jealous. I got the inspiration for this one while I was publishing My True Self. It occurred to me that between that story and Lyra’s Journey, I was developing a certain style. It reminded me of a quote from Futurama:
I’m not trying to compare my silly pony fics to M*A*S*H, of course, but I do seem to have a tendency to switch gears and lay the drama on thick at the end, don’t I? I try to make it germane to the story, but since the big dramatic moment is the reason I wrote the story in the first place, it’s kind of unavoidable.
It made me feel bad for Lyra, though. Because my stories keep focusing on important, life-changing events, she’s always seen struggling with some major internal crisis – she rarely gets the chance to be her fun, free-spirited self.
With this story, Lyra finally gets a chance to simply enjoy life. It’s the one part of her relationship with Bon Bon that I haven’t had much of a chance to examine until now, and I’m happy that there was a story to accompany it.
(Of course, I wound up getting dramatic at the end anyway because apparently, that’s just who I am.)
I didn’t tie this story to a specific point in time of their relationship because I think it works pretty well regardless of how long they’ve been dating. Still, if I had to choose, I’d say A Day at Pony Island takes place a couple of months after the one-year anniversary of when they officially declared themselves a couple.
Incidentally, if you care about how all of my stories fit together with the chronology of Lyra and Bon Bon’s relationship, here you go:
• My True Self (takes place alongside the season one and season two episodes referenced within the story)
• Last-Minute Gifts (takes place during Chapter 9 of My True Self)
• An Expression of Love
• A Day at Pony Island
• (the episode “Slice of Life” from the actual show occurs here)
• Lyra’s Journey (takes place at the time it was published – in the middle of season six of the actual show)
Next up for Lyra and Bon Bon: Another novella! It’ll begin with a couple of scenes set in the past to provide some more backstory for the two, but then it’ll jump ahead – past the events of Lyra’s Journey and beyond what would be considered the “present” on the actual show.
It’s also going to be long – my outline is roughly the same length as the outline for My True Self was. I’m not saying that this story will break the 58,000+ word count that My True Self achieved (good heavens, I hope it doesn’t!), but it is going to take me a while to write.
So I’ll be going quiet for a few months. First, I have to attend to real life. Then I’ll start writing another piece of fiction about cartoon horses who are in love. Yep, that sounds like a perfectly normal thing to do.
Well, have fun attending to the real world!
We'll be waiting to hear from you again - or to be more accurate, to read more about our favorite "cartoon horses who are in love"!
Take the time you need! Your Lyrabon stories are the best and we'll be waiting here patiently for the sequel :)
