IN WHICH I WONDER THINGS
So I've completed two one-shots. I have a one-shot about a third complete, and then three chapters of the multi-chapter that will eventually answer all the questions. But, to be honest, I'm kinda worried about making public my Depressed Sunset™ story. It's pretty maudlin -- that's the point of it -- and I'm worried people will hate it or think it's just emo trash even though it fills in a missing chunk of narrative in Sunset's "Recovery" Arc… hopefully it's also not too much of a retread of L&H. So, Should I get over myself and just release the story, come what may?
This is a similar position I found myself in with Highs & Lows, which I wrote in less than two hours in March 2015 but then sat on for eight months for fear of offending people worse-off mentally than me. Turns out most people enjoyed it and I worried for (mostly) nothing. Meanwhile, people did not much enjoy my "Spike Gets Trapped in a Youtube Poop" story, which still has my highest dislike ratio. That's a damn shame as I really enjoyed writing that one. In fact, I enjoy writing most of what I put up on here. If I didn't, I wouldn't bother. That's why I never wrote "The Hotel", which I teased last year. Given that one of the characters' actions were those of my now-ex and most of the bases for the others have ghosted me since she dumped me, you can imagine why I'm not inclined to write about it.
I'm trying to figure out what to watch next. Maybe Mermaid's Forest; I've owned it for years and never touched it, and I love the original manga. Takahashi really is best at short-subjects; it's almost a shame she's famous for long-running romcoms.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have dinner to make and a whiny cat to feed. Peace out.
PS -- I know I've asked this before, but I'll ask again: Would y'all like a blog post that actually sets out the Burritoverse and/or "Recovery" in their proper timelines? (as I kinda wrote stuff out of order)
I'd say as long as you feel the story is complete, release it. Don't worry about what other think of it before you give them something to think about. Even then, ignore those who dislike it without reason. I've seen authors end wonderful series because people kept complaining about the plans the author had for it. It's the author's story to tell, we just get to read and enjoy it.
For stuff to watch, I would suggest Onepunch Man, Shokugeki no Soma, Hunter x Hunter (the 2011 version), Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
4426970 - I'd love to get to One-Punch Man eventually, but I kinda want to get through my current anime backlog first (which stretches into the triple-digits, mostly due to a bunch of movies I've bought but haven't watched yet). I'm so far behind the times I haven't even watched Madoka Magica -- though I've read the manga version and its spinoffs, so I know basically what happens.
You make a good point about damn the critics. Faded Sunset is ready to go. I'll probably give it one more read-through - it's not long - to see if it needs any more edits and then post it on Sunday. Hope you like sad. 'Cause this one I tried (but probably failed) to make even sadder than Lows & Highs.
