Why do I write? · 10:10pm Jan 15th, 2017

Oddly enough, I do most of my writing while exercising, typing on a smartphone. I had previously reserved this time, either on an exercise bike for an hour a day, or walking as a carrot to allow me to actually make me perform exercise. In a busy life, there is precious free time. I previously spent this time reading novels.

So now I write.

Today, I didn't really feel like it. I listened to a podcast, then started reading my news feeds. Anything not to write in that precious time. Finally, I grew bored enough that I flipped into the word processor and continued the work necessary to finish Sunset Shimmer Goes to Hell. Magically, I fell instantly into the story; words in the POV character flowed onto the screen. Events and personal information I didn't really know... yet. Yeah, magical.

Why do I write?

It is a zen experience. It blocks out all other worries and thoughts. It feels good. After the fact, it's wonderful to get the feedback from fans, too. (This is where I insert Twilight's "Thank you everypony!) Moreover, I am forever fascinated to re-read my stories. I see characters that are totally not like me, having aspirations, talents, and flaws that in real life would make it difficult or impossible for be to become friends with these people, some because they are too popular, dynamic, talented, or distasteful, and so much more. I cannot believe this comes from me.

I like it.

It's fun.

That's the same reason I sketch, because it clears my mind and relaxes me.
