Phew! Final word count, pre-edit of course, is 287, 496.
What a marathon! Not as long as Ice Fall, but longer than the others, this has been a fascinating story for me to write and one that I can only hope I've done justice to. It was the sort of story that could have gone on and on and on, but I felt the time was right to bring it all together ready for the next story. And that brings me nicely onto the next topic, which is the Fairlight series.
Now I appreciate that not everybody will have read Fairlight, especially as it is rated M and all that, but this particular story is partly a lead in to the next in the line of Fairlight stories. For those of you who have been following this blog, I've already said that i'm going to be rewriting the Fairlight series and compiling them into one book which will be rated Teen. If I can, i'll leave the original stories up with warts and all, but they'll remain M for Mature.
Here's where it gets a little complicated: Fairlight, and the following stories, were all first person. When the Snow Melts is third person and i'm still not quite 100% certain whether to write one more in the Fairlight series as first person and tie them together with another in third, or do a combined one. Personally i'm leaning towards the former but may incorporate the last Fairlight story in with re-write. Any thoughts gratefully received! Until then, i'll leave you with my fondest wishes for a happy New Year for you and yours.
Kindest Regards,
Bluespectre
Looking forward to the story, although i took a hiatus from the series after Ice Fall since its was a giant undertaking and concentrating on thinning down my "read them you fool!" pile by reading the lower word count stories (one shots and such).
As for what style of writing to use, i would say depends on what you prefer? Didnt read the Fairlight series but did plan to do it too once im done with the well whatever you call the universe of Ice Fall, Snow Melts and the rest.
I think I answered my own question on reflection. The plan is to rewrite Fairlight in the new year and finish that 'arc' off before cracking on with the next instalment. I think that will be the last of the 'first person' Fairlight stories as they do seem to be quite a mixed bag and not to everybody's taste. When the snow melts was originally intended as a one shot spin off from the Fairlight series but ended up taking on a life of its own and became, unintentionally, the predominant series. All the queen's horses by comparison is a little different as it's not about Celestia or Rush at all but rather focuses on Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, and their respective families involvement in current day Equestria where the last book of Fairlight is set.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series and if you read the Fairlight series in their 'original' form, please don't judge them too harshly!
Onward with the editing!
