Still Not Dead & Elsewhere · 3:55am Dec 23rd, 2016
Kinda feeling it, though, recently, between a bit of a case of inspiration burnout that's led to me taking something of an unscheduled, unannounced writing hiatus, and a new contract come along for my day job that's taken up most of my brain for a bit.
However.
Trying to get back to it soonest.
On another note - and not to delay the next chapter, I do assure you - I was inspired by Estee's recent blog post to contemplate adding a glossary/factlet appendix to Friendship is Sufficiently Advanced, too, just to save everyone the trouble of remembering the doubtless increasing amounts of 'verse-local terminology that have been and are going to be in use, here and there, especially at the speed I write. Mostly I'll just be filling it in as we go along.
But here's a sample entry as an appetiser:
Elsewhere
A term independently adopted by unicorn theoretical thaumaturgists and eldraeic ontotechnologists to designate the not-space/not-time that teleportation moves through, that pocket claudications exist in, that the universe keeps some of its metadata in, and so forth. Not really a where or a when, inasmuch as it contains only the space and time that you bring with you (mistakes in this area often prove embarrassing), the term is mostly a shrug that saves explaining "Star Swirl's Third Theorem of Omnipresent Amiability in Aetheric Lattice Functions" or "Janiris's Sixfold Mapping of Mass-Energy Event Nodes onto the Sexternial Data-Space Metric", respectively, to laypeople.(Those curious for more information are referred to Everything Enthusiastically Explained for the Enthusiast, Sparkle etal., pub. S.I.T. Press, 2139 YH.)
Sorry to hear that, good luck with the contract, and waiting for new stuff from you when you're done.
They're using the universe's config files as their own personal file transfer buffer? That's not terrifying. Nope.
Also, best of luck with the contract work! I think you'll do fine; you're a very clever pony, after all.
4352713 More like the universe's /etc filesystem.
ontosudo df -kh?
4352930
Display universe's available disk space, as measured in kilohorses?
4352713
What, the terrifying thought isn't that the universe's private file storage is also the place that Pinkie keeps all her stuff?
4353506 I forgot what "pocket claudication" meant, or that definitely would've been the thing to keep me up at night.
Yep, we need a glossary, if only for my colander-like memory.
