OH COME ON, And other Musings · 10:47am Oct 9th, 2016
So I just watched "Every Little Thing she Does". I'm always super-late on watching episodes. It was okay. Apparently Twalot does teach the Glimglam conventional magic. Who'da thunk it, eh? There goes the subplot I wrote. Oy vey. Well, at this point I'm throwing my hands up in the air and saying "fuck it", I'm not going to do some canonical gymnastics to make DHD line up with the show. Consider this blog an offical unoffical Alternate Universe tag.
I'd also like to acknowlege how damn OOC Glimmer is in DHD, whoch kind of hit me over the head when I actually watched the show. In the show, she's actually a bit more mild-mannered and a bit less shrewd, and her disdain for "friendship lessons" is more of a latent fear of social interaction maybe she's an aspie like most if us. My characterization of Twalot is also a bit iffy, too.
Anyhow, I live on a ship now. Not going out to sea for God knows how long. No wifi. Have to huddle around the smokers to get cell signal. Progress will be slowed.
That is all. Pony hard, Wayne.
...And shit like this is why I declared Twilight dead at the end of season 3 and gave up watching entirely a while back. Also, remember that the hacks writing the show these days don't have a clue as to how to write any of the characters, so you will need to go watch seasons 1 and especially 2 if you want to recalibrate your feel for Twilight's character.
As for Starlight, please just put a bullet in her head and be done with it. Bonus points if Flash does it deliberately after Twilight tells him what she did.
Also, as amusing as that idea is, I think it could actually open up some really strong storytelling possibilities with Twilight's idealism clashing with Flash's brutal cynicism and be a good opportunity to really show how out of place he is in the modern world. After all, while you have said he is out of time and a serious veteran, nothing in the story has really shown off the differences in values and norms you would expect from a soldier who fought in real wars against truly dangerous enemies like Sombra so this might be a good opportunity to do some exploration of those differences. Twilight is also a perfect foil for this since she has such an idealistic worldview due to the fact that she has mostly been able to avoid serious consequences even in major altercations, so I think there is a lot of real potential outside the fun of brutally murdering one of the tumors that has infected the show.

I'm not killing Glimglam. The show might go down hill, but I'm too jaded to stop watching. Besides, I like the idea of a character that isn't all sunshine, rainbows, and friendship. One who opposes these ideals but isn't labeld as an antag or evil. The tried this with Discord, but it ended up making him less interesting of a character, and it's deja-vu for Starlight.
4248465 Fair enough. I'm just thinking you could make exactly that concept far more interesting and logical if you made Flash that character. His backstory makes him a logical choice for the role since he has fought his way through one of the roughest patches in Equestria's history in an elite combat unit so it is probably safe to assume that he has killed before and had friends killed during his career. It also makes the contrast stronger since he is the protagonist and rock solid ally of Twilight's rather than a reformed villain so it isn't something that can be bundled up in a reform package like we have seen with everyone in the show. It's obviously up to you, but I think it would be a good direction to take with him and the story as a whole to make things more interesting.
To be honest, I thought your characterisation of Twilight's and Starlight's relationship was... kinda alternate universe-y from the get go. Twilight not teaching her magic? U wot?
Had that episode come out before your chapter, you could've actually worked it in by having Twilight refuse to teach Starlight for a time because Starlight screwed up big time. And Starlight worries she'll never get better, that she'll always be a sociopath, and quietly slips away while the other two are distracted.
Apart from the season finale (which has some massive issues in my eyes), I don't think the show's grown so much worse. I have to disagree with D48 on that. And on the need for cynical, murderous vigilantes because that will somehow make the whole thing better.
