My teachers are crazy · 6:04pm Sep 22nd, 2016

It is official. My teachers are all crazy.

My Spanish teacher, who also teach French, English and Swedish (possibly German, too, Idk) refuse to speak to students outaide of the classroom unless it's in the language he teach you in, which, for me, is Spanish.

My Psychology class might as well be called Parenting according to My teacher and Fraued 101 because honestly 90% of all she teach us is inderect or, for that part, direct parenting advice.

My math teacher don't believe in graphing calculateres, if she could chose Calculaters wouldn’t be a thing at all. But she doesn't so we can use normal calculators.

My old math teacher litteraly stopped to say hi tome when he was on his way to the bathroom even through his hand was covered in blood and dripping on the floor. I swear it felt like he hadn't even noticed it was bleeding because he was so casual.

Yeah. And this is the top of the iceberg.

Well, most of the way the mind works is established during childhood.

Teachers that don't believe in technology aren't doing a service to students. I get that they want to reinforce knowledge of the concept, but at some point, you have to acknowledge that better tools mean that your idea of what is knowledge has evolved. We have incredibly powerful hand computers and the full access to the internet at our fingertips. This means that no one has to memorize equations anymore. All of that rote math learning is antiquated. However, math is still often taught like this because it's traditional to do so.

There is definite value in understanding the reason why you are doing what you do in any equation. They should keep that concept, but jettison all the moronic memorization. Math should be rolled into science and taught together. That way, you have to understand why you are doing anything that you are doing mathematically because you have to design the problems to fit your scientific experiments.

If you ban graphing calculators, then all you are really going to get are simple problems. Complex calculus takes a really long time, even with calculators. You simply won't have the time to work very much out without computer aid. That's doing as much of a disservice to students as giving them "easy mode" with calculators.

I've been saying for years here in the US that they really need to slow down the teaching of math. 95% of the population will never use anything past basic algebra, so why try and cram calculus down their throats by senior year in high school? It would be better to make algebra the senior year math and take the extra three years and really, really make sure people know how to deal with the core elements of basic math. I know half the people in my high school still struggled with fractions when I was there. By the time we'd gotten to trigonometry, they'd entirely checked out of the process. It's such a waste.

4221648 We only study 3 years in HS and we got Calculus every single one of them, though it's not its own class. It's a part of all Math Classes.

And she believe that if your to use anything of the kind it's computers, because you will use them 'in realy life', not graphic calculateres.

(She’s 64 and a former airplane engineer)

As for your Spanish teacher, your thoughts about her read like this:

(Courtesy of Brunswick Record Corporation)

She teaches you four different languages
Only wants you to speak to her in one
Have you seen her?
Tell me have you seen her?

4221650 And that's fine. You will use them in real life, but unless you're working at a desk with a computer, that's not all that helpful in class. So graphic easy equations by hand is the answer? That's curious logic. However, if she's satisfied with the results, then whatever. She's the teacher. I just think we should use whatever the best technology we have available to us and structure what we need to know around that. We shouldn't limit our tools.

Well that is more than a little odd Keam.

4221653 yeah kind of tho he only teach me one, but in general he teach 4

4221655 I agree. And I have learned to use minebefore we got her, during the first oart of the term. Our other teacher believed in that stuff

4221684 that's what I'm saying!

4221686 I noticed. I went to a school with teachers that had some questionable judgement at times, but this is kind of freaky. It might actually be freaky deaky, but I'm not sure. :applejackunsure:

It is official. My teachers are all crazy.

All teachers are a little crazy.
Otherwise, they would not become teachers...:pinkiecrazy:

Sounds to me like your old math teacher was in a state of shock, adrenaline was pumping through his veins numbing the pain he would feel. The others I'm sure have their reasons. Like the Spanish teacher, how else can anyone learn a language fully unless they are immersed in it.

4221746 okay...

4222256

Probably. Just, he stopped and was like hi Keam!

Yeah

4222497 Good news is you know he's doing alright... kind of.

4222502 Yeah. But I was msotly starribg at his hand. He never explained but I assume he cut himself seeing as he's a science teacher as well

4222505 Well I hope he's doing better.

4222511 yeah. Haven't seen him since but who knows he's probably fine
