Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

I didn't even know Pokémon games were on cellphones now. · 12:08pm Sep 12th, 2016

Today in the news, both in newspapers and on national television:

"Pokémon is ramping up cellphone bills."

Huh.

And here I thought Pokémon was a handheld console game. You mean I can roam the Routes and regions on my smartphone? Do I have to go to a special toy shop to access Route 34? Am I living next door to the Elite 4, by any chance? I thought Pokémon, of any version, was something that you buy once, a game without micro-transactions. My mind is just blown now, news anchors. What's next, do we get headlines about how football bats are being replaced with basketball clubs? How about calling Warcraft an X-Box exclusive first-person shooter?

And earlier, we had stuff like "Pokémon Hunters overrun small towns."

Really? So this new game lets you play a Pokémon Hunter now? A bad guy? Cool, I love villain protagonist games.

*sighs*

People, the news is supposed to be about facts. If the headline is 'Man gets injured playing football' when in reality he was bowling, that is delivering erroneous or false information to the public. Pokémon Go is not the same game as any of the Pokémon games, nor is it the same game as the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. A space and two letters. That's all it takes to make a factually false headline into an accurate one.

I hope they get their excremental matter together, or hire someone to go over the games-related news (not qualified, but willing to learn :twilightsheepish:), because if this keeps up, we're going to start getting reports about how Overwatch is Nintendo's attempt at a single-player MOBA.

But fact checking is haaaarrrrdddd :fluttershysad:

They may be referring to Pokemon Go. It's the iOS/Android pokemon game that Niantic and Nintendo released some time ago. It's been absolutely everywhere online, so yeah, Pokemon ramping up data bills is very true.

I think you may have mis-read/not read my post. I know what game they are trying to report on, but this isn't the game in the headlines. My point is that the headlines are, quite simply, misleading on a factual basis. Parents who are unfamiliar with the franchise might be turned off of purchasing otherwise fine games because they don't realise these are two different things. And that irks me.

Unless you mean the Pokémon themselves... Meowth might be pilfering some coins for its attack, but other than that, I don't see Pikachu stealing money to satisfy that ketchup addiction. Assuming that's a species-wide thing.

All the fun of collecting pokemon without the boring gameplay and decision making!

Buh-but it's getting people to play videogames outside! That makes it healthy exercise!
And it's getting them to attack total strangers based on what team they are in, as well as shackling people to their smartphone screens! That makes it a good social game!

In all seriousness, it's not the game that bugs me. I don't get out enough to be bothered by it. It's the faulty news reporting surrounding it that drives me up the walls. The vibe of 'I could do a better job at that, and I'm both less educated in journalism and unemployed' really wears down an otherwise angelic sense of patience.

Well, maybe angelic like those bat-winged angels that like sulphur and fire. You know the ones.

4206565 I dunno, ketchup can get expensive for a pikachu...
