    Aaaand progress. Kind of.

    So I'm blocked, a bit.

I've got this Act 2 prologue, right? I know exactly how it goes down. I know who's involved, I know the beginning, middle and end, I know who the POV is, who the antagonist is, what the scenario is, and how it all pans out.

It's the damned details, you know?

    "I love deadlines.

I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by." - Douglas Adams.

Life happens. Thursday came and went, and since horse-word fan-fictions are as yet not able to pay my many and sundry bills, I was forced to reprioritize a bit in order to keep the lights on. I figure if Douglas Adams can be a bit cavalier about missing his deadlines, at least I'm in good company.

    Exciting!

Act 2 prologue nearly done. Minus one minor section it’s content-complete, and the rest of the scenework has gone through multiple edit passes. Chapter will be content-complete tonight, edits will happen tonight and tomorrow morning, and I’ll post tomorrow afternoon.

Act 2 is going to be a hell of a ride.

    Act 2 Prologue Homestretch

6400 words, multiple edit passes. A bit of content left to slam in, but that's a major motivational fix in and a much more compelling... transformation... for a character who's turning into my favorite anti-hero.

Expect the prologue for Act 2 this week - and then things really start to heat up. Figuratively speaking, of course. Also possibly literally.

    Holidays and the Flu

Deathless update status: 6k words and nearing draft completion. I like where it went, but it’s rough, so it’ll need a couple of editorial passes, but release is in sight. Had to spend some extra cycles on this one, because it hints at a lot of things that happen later, and character motivation isn’t something you want to get wrong. Poor Hurricane.

So, I've been away. · 1:41pm Jun 30th, 2016

I honestly don't even know what to write here, but I really do need to say something.

The end of 2015 did not have a happy ending for this stone unicorn. The details are unimportant for anyone but me -- and, frankly, I'm still not sure how to talk about it all -- but I've been dealing with the real-life fallout now for months. I say this not to dwell on what I've lost, because none of us come here for that. I say it to let the good folks following me, and reading my story, know that I have not been away on a whim, and that I'm not returning on a whim, either. The worst, for me, is over, at least in the sense of my being able to cope with the new place I've found myself. So now it's time to go back to doing some things for me again -- and that includes ponies.

And ponies are what we come here for. MLP is a strange phenomenon, and it's tempting to overanalyze it, but in many ways, at least for the older set who appreciate it, I suspect it's in many ways a reconnection to how we once saw the world, via a set of new myths and fairy tales for us to believe in now that our old gods have been cast down or corrupted. It's an assurance that somewhere out there, there's a Celestia who can be strong for us, a Luna who's trying to help us through our nightmares, or maybe even a Twilight who's obsessed with getting to the bottom of our problems -- and even if they manage to make things worse in the process, we know their motives are pure. And that purity gives us an opportunity to become acquainted again with the person we always knew we should be, rather than the person the world turned us into. Powerful stuff.

So with all that to one side, I'm back, to continue my contributions to the shared lunacy here, and barring any other new massively life-changing events in my future, I'll be sticking around. Deathless, now more than ever, is a story that I want to tell. Maybe even need to tell. Whatever. New chapters soon. Good to be back. Missed you lot.

Personally I'm here specifically because I like overanalyzing fiction, and there are no purer forms of fiction than children's stories and fairytales.

4058214 I knew we had more in common than just a love of good whiskey and a tacit agreement on who Best Princess is.

4058258 Actually, my favorite princess is season 2 Twilight and my favorite whiskey is gin.

But it's good to have you back.

4058352 I need your guidance, then.

I have yet to find a way to really enjoy gin, but I've always wondered if I was doing it wrong. What's your preferred intake method?

And as for S2 Twilight, I need details. I could swear I remember her being a complete neurotic in S2, between the insanity of Lesson Zero and the tantrum at the wedding (and the time loop episode, though I enjoyed that one)... or is that the point?

4058369 Gin? I go for G&Ts, or the occasional nip straight from the bottle to wake up my throat after a long day. Gin is great because it tastes like spite.

S2 Twilight was hilarious. That's pretty much the extent of my reasoning.

4059081 "Gin is great because it tastes like spite."

I'm fairly certain you just converted me.

4059105 Well, don't force it. I've also been told it tastes like random berries you find in the woods. Which makes sense, considering.

4059179 Mirto, one of the most excellent liqueurs in the universe, is also made of random berries found in the woods, so I can probably adapt to that without much trouble. Besides, the thought of having a drink explicitly because it tastes like spite is appealing on so many levels, I really have to give it another chance.
