When I was first coming up with crazy crossover ideas, long before I discovered MLP and started the ones I'm now known for, I once speculated a crossover between Jackie Chan Adventures and Xiaolin Showdown. I speculated I could easily make them exist in the same world, because - based on listening alone - I thought the name of Uncle's teacher and Omi's teacher was the same. The pronunciation sounded the same to my ears when watching the shows.
In a recent chapter of "Three More Things", I had to look up Uncle's teacher's name for part of it. Remembering that old fic idea, I decided to look up the name of Omi's teacher as well.
Uncle's teacher - Chi Master Fong
Omi's teacher - Master Fung
...I'm sad now. Silly, isn't it?
EDIT: The reason Three More Things is tagged is because writing the story chapter led to this thought. Xiaolin Showdown will have no influence on the story itself. This was just a thought related to something from a long time ago I wanted to share.
Nope I would say that would be an easy mistake to make! Heck I bet you could even find a way to make it work!
I feel your pain. I made a similar mistake myself back when I was younger and had a crossover idea between the two series. But when I did my research I found out the same thing you did and scrap the idea.

Why are you sad? Lets be honest, the difference between the two names could be something as simple as accent being written out instead of just spoken.

I know. But little things like that result in readers picking at logic holes, which is always frustrating.
4012342 .... My dear favorite author, one of the gods of Legend could descend from the heavens, carve any of the Holy scripts into Bedrock, in broad daylight, on national and international News and people would still question it.
Just put a truthful reason into the author's notes and your fans will accept it. the people who point out (and whine about) the inconsistence can lump it.
But... what if they are the same? What if the Talismans are actually shing gong woo? (Sorry for murdering it) My God... it all makes sense!

So...just put a note in the story description or somewhere that the story assumes Fung and Fong are transliteration differences, rather than actual different names?
4012374 Or you could take the easy way out, call Fong and Fung brothers and go nuts with it. You're already having fun inserting ponies into it, why not make it a justified crossover via headcanon?
4012374 That or make them brothers who's parents .... I'm not sure what reason to give parents to name their kids with so very little difference between the names.

Also.... When you DO Bring all of these Crossovers to a big Finish- why is it that I get the feeling that Xiaolin Showdown would be almost the perfect place to bring all of the Universes together for a Showdown of Epic Proportions- of the Battles of good versus Evil? .... I mean- I'm not the only one who feels that way- right?

Edit: That is LITERALLY The CONCEPT of the whole SHOW btw. HENCE WHY IT FEELS SO FAMILIAR- and why it feels like a good idea!
I would like to suggest a chapter or two that involve the American Dragon Jake Long.
I'd actually be interested in a Xiaolin Showdown fic. Maybe a foal is found alongside an infant Omi by Master Fung? Or a larger stretch would be that master Dashi raised one that ends up in the present somehow. Considering there are multiple time travel methods in the series, I don't think it would be too much.
