XCOM adventures 9 · 9:06pm May 18th, 2016
Back to the continuing adventures of the wildly desperate resistance against our alien overlords.
Another landed UFO to attack! These missions still feel nostalgic. I wonder how many of Team Review will survive. Team Review for this mission includes the new psychic John Perry whose psionic ability to to cause insanity and pain in enemies. The team also has Ghost for the sixth team slot. I need to see if another reviewer has shown up in the recruit lists yet.
The first two turns went smooth. Got into position, spotted several groups of enemies, most of the team put into overwatch. Titanium Dragon hacks one of the visible robots to take control of it. Which reveals the team's position. Five overwatch shots taken when the enemy scrambles for cover. One hits. One single shot hits. Team Review completely botches the ambush. The team almost recovers, has a good turn right after the enemy actions. Then PresentPerfect goes down thanks to the flying enemy we just encountered (Archons are pretty tough and dangerous) and that panics half the team. Plus PresentPerfect is the one with the medkits so stabilizing him is going to be tricky.
Nope. Four down, one unconscious and three bleeding out with no medkits. Loganberry and John Perry struggling against who knows how many reinforcements because I didn't reach the distress beacon in time to turn it off.. Oh hey, there goes John Perry. Let us see if Power Armor and Sword equipped last man standing can pull this off. If he manages victory I'm calling it a win and the rest will just have to stay dead. Oh, and he has a single hit point. Until I saw that I thought he might actually have a chance. Nope. Next enemy round they take him out. Guess it's back to the previous save for me.
This try is starting much better. Team Review actually pulled off a semi-successful ambush! Plus they killed the annoying flying guy with the ambush. Later when a snake showed up, took it out in one turn with some good teamwork. Everyone got wounded and PresentPerfect almost died, but very efficently done. No, wait, six person team now so one person did not get wounded. It boggles my mind sometimes how hit/miss these things are. It is so rare that I finish with just one or two casulities. It's either everyone makes it or nobody does. Two promotions, the new guy and Titanium Dragon. New guy decided that a field medic would be a good thing for the team.
Look, just because I forgot to give the current medic of the team a medkit for the mission and people nearly died because of it doesn't mean that we need more medics.
Operation Dismal Thunder
I hope the computer that assigns the mission names didn't achieve sapience and is depressed.
Anyway, valuable item in enemy base. Team Pony (and horizon) is sent to recover it. More of the fancy exo-suit armor has been finished so Scootaloo gets one. Mostly because equiping Loganberry with one seems to have worked and Scootaloo is this team's sword-person.
Let's see how the mission went! What does the after-action report tell us?
So, could have gone better.
Stupid civilians. So, bystander blew our cover going in. Which let the all-muton squad nearby kill Princess Cadance because of slightly non-optimal cover. Horizon did manage to hack one of the flying cyborgs which let us see where all the other enemies were. Even though the mind-controlled enemy didn't manage to hurt any of the other bad guys, and they didn't manage to shoot him down either. So not a complete success. Also failed to get to the item before it self-destructed so that means the mission was a failure. Lost Scootaloo as well. Should've used her ninja hiding skills instead of charging in. Hope whoever gets the fancy exo-suit armor next doesn't mind the dents and blood-stains.
The other bad news is that we went there to try and stop progress on the doomsday clock Avatar Project. Which failed, so for the first time in the game the counter for that is past the halfway point. Better go hit more facilities to bring it down again.
Ah yes, my fellow metallic beings all come to obey my-
Er, I mean, it is a good thing I protected my fellow meatbags by hacking that robot.
I think it might have.
But at least Horizon made it!

You've actually been doing pretty good as hacking-guy.
Hm. I don't see any appearances by a certain scarred Brit since XCOM adventures 2, but no mention of his death, either. Is he still around?
Dismal Thunder was totally my fault. I'm so used to having a full team of meat shields that having a metal shield threw off my game. D:

Sort of! I'm pretty sure I had you confused with someone else so I switched the name. I should make a new scarred brit that's a proper Pascoite. Favorite colors?

Wait, I just figured it out! I'll have to change the soldier's name back and make a new guy for the other guy. Because you already answered the colors question because I remember you mentioning the colors of Pascoite and that's the colors your guy has. Huh. Really wish I could find the one comment from whoever it was that inspired the bio to confirm, but the colors thing totally matches up.
