Please post all criticisms, feedback, and pet peeves you have with the pony pov series. I want to hear on how I can improve, make better, or make less bad, things you feel strongly about the series.

The only complaint I've ever really had was length.

A recurring issue I have with the POV series is the lack of dialog tags. It can be very difficult to figure out who's speaking in a scene. Although I can usually puzzle it out, it always yanks me out of the story.

A second issue is story length. I love you commitment to the notion that everyone is the hero of their own story and that there's no such thing as a secondary character. However there's a reason it's common practice to only focus on a few characters; giving nearly every character their own plot line significantly increases the word count..

I made a point of fixing this up in the finale arc, with the first sentence, or a tag saying who is narrating the story right at the start.

Ironically during the first section of the finale this is why I focus almost exclusively on the CMC.

And occasionally, the way the Princesses are always right and referred to as gods repeatedly, bet that's YMMV.

I ironically showed how flawed Celestia was in Origins. Ironically, I'd have left them out if I had it over again since we've seen Celestia's great mistakes since then in canon.

Needs more dakka.

I'll be honest. You're a very good writer, better than some actual writers (The "minds" behind Twilight and 50 Shades come to mind), you produce fascinating concepts, the Tirek Gaiden is one of the most fascinating stories I've ever read since I ADORE Tirek, I adored the Shining Armor/Dark World Season which I feel was the best, but, I feel you have 2 main problems. Atmosphere, and references. Sometimes, you put a few TOO many references or some that don't feel like they'd fit, or feel like too much. I have nothing against a shout out to something, but more often than not, it feels very unsubtle. Second is atmosphere. I find it a bit hard to get into the story as I do most stories as it has a very meta feel to it what with the horror world the CMC and co are in feeling like a horror based RPG sorta, and all the talk of "main characters" "RPG" and the fact that most of the Pantheon are aware of the 4th wall to some extent. Speaking of Season 8, I have two main problems with it. Rainbow Dash's Nightmare, and the feel of what I call the "How-The-Hell-Do-You-Get-Darker-Than-Dark-World" world. It's a working title. Anyway, as I've ranted before, I find Rainbow Dash's Nightmare's attitude extremely annoying, not to Scrappy levels, but incredibly so, especially during her little Moment with Dr Wolf thing with AJ who thank to you is now my favorite pony. (Thanks I suppose.)

Where was I going with this? Ah yes, apart from Nightmare Manacle (Finally remembered her name) the atmosphere of Season 8 feels very bleak and meta, and I don't mind 4th wall stuff, fine, I ADORE it, and when done right (Deadpool) it's hilarious, but, the atmosphere feels very hopeless despite your light at the end of the tunnel philosophy, and it's so meta that it's jarring, it pulls you out of the experience I feel. Why do you think I took a break from running commentaries and instead of commenting on every line needing 2 comments often, they're now a lot shorter.

Bottom line, Nightmare Manacle is VERY annoying, and the atmosphere of Season 8 makes it hard to get sucked in for me.

On the flipside, you're a very talented writer (though some spelling mistakes do slip through the cracks) with very interesting ideas and I look forward to seeing Pony POV end. That, came out wrong, didn't it?

Hello!

I have yet to read your series, so my presence in here may come off as a surprise, but yes, there is something someone who hasn't read one of your series could ask.
I do want to start, but the amount of stories is rather daunting to a newcomer, and I'm actually confused as to which order am I supposed to read this in. There is the seasons (which start at zero... is zero some bonus chapter thing or the actual start?), and then there are character focused stories which I'm not sure where they fit in the timeline...

Guess I'm not as smart as I thought... Can't even figure out where to start reading from... You wouldn't mind handing me a "how to read Pony PoV series for Dummies"?

Season zero, is when I wrote what were supposed to be single POV, then one of Trixie all during return of Harmony, and a what if ending before I saw part 2.

The rest of the seasons go from there. The character centric ones are mostly optional canon, to be read in the order that they were posted by date. Some friends of mine have also written some recursive stuff to the pony pov series most of which I accept as canon.

Tirek's saga takes place between the wedding arc, and what I ironically named The Finale arc (which is more like three arcs in one).

The Seven Dreams/Nightmares saga can be read before or after the dark world arc as it was written along side it.

Any of that make sense?

Also we have a trope page.

3953150

Thank you for the quick reply. Yep, it's clear enough to give it a try. I am aware of the TVtrope page, congratz by the way, but I tend to avoid those when it's something I don't know yet, because I'll usually spoil myself everything.

3943084 Always right? Considering Celestia's MASSIVE Windego screw up, and Luna's elitisim, I'd have to disagree there.

3957007

Do you think that added GROWTH for Celly and Lulu to grow out of in their early years, or was it dark for dark's sake?

3945500 Giving my counterpoints here. I think Manacle was MEANT to be frustrating. On the topic of Meta, I like it too, but I agree that from Wedding Arc to Dark World, you've gone a bit TOO far in that direction Alex.

You've also become a lot more anvilicious "GRIMDARK STORIES ARE BAD!!! GRIMDARK STORIES ARE BAD!!!"

In the past, your moral was woven into the story in a very subtle way. Here though, it feels like you're shouting it in our faces.

As for the darkness, I feel it's appropriate. Especially for a Series Finale. It's also gives a feeling of optimism. Afterall, if you're characters are at rock bottom already, there's nowhere for them to go but up.

3943190 When you say "canon", do you mean POV canon, or Heart World canon?

3953206 I'd recommend reading Seven Dreams/Nightmares before Dark World Doing so will make a certain scene in Dark World 1000 times more awesome.

3957012 Oh, it DEFINITELY added growth. One thing you've never done is add dark for darks sake. You're far too insecure for that.

3957039

I meant heart world canon.

3957039

There's a difference between making a character frustrating and making her so annoying i want to throttle some sense into her. Literally if need be.
