Plans for Widget · 10:07pm Sep 3rd, 2012
Just a quick note regarding future story arcs, primarily for my own sanity. This list is not set in stone.
A Cutie Mark: Widget joins up with the CMC to find out if she can earn a cutie mark of her own. Fillies and explosives are a bad combination.
Pinkie's Decision: Pinkie is tired of Widget's reluctance to interact with anypony.
Flying Lessons: Widget gets flying lessons from several of her friends. Who will she choose to be her teacher?
A Day With the Mail-mare: Intrigued by the duties of a certain wall-eyed pegasus, Widget decides to shadow her for the day.
Hearth's Warming Eve: When the mane six head off to Canterlot for the holiday, Widget tries to find somepony else to spend time with.
Winter Wrap-up: Annoyed by the slow pace of the annual event, Widget tries to invent something to help speed things up.
Seasonal Changes: A special visitor comes to see Widget, and Spike learns a bit more about his kin.
Etiquette: Rarity is unhappy with Widget's poor manners, and tries to train her to be more proper.
A New Life: Widget pursues her dream of setting up a shop to sell her inventions.
Ideas? Comments? Please let me know.
I see lots of potential, but I'd like to know, do you have a final goal in mind? There is something to be said for having a string of open ended slice of life style chapters, but I find that having a goal to work toward leads to deeper writing.

I'm contemplating whether or not to give her a bit of a love life at the end.... but that one is WAY up in the air right now. Mostly it's a tale of her personal growth, and settling into town. I envision her as a background character for the show, building things and occasionally blowing herself up.

I'm thinking something more in the nature of a conclusion. Or at least a midway point. Having a solid "this will happen" will let you make some decisions on what other things need to happen in order to build up to it. Key events like that also serve to provide conflict and to tie up loose ends.

I'll try and work on that. This is still just a spark of an idea at the moment. I'm lucky that the characters seem intent on writing themselves.
