Dear Princess Luna: too bad you can't get a word in edgewise (S06E1-2)

Seriously, though. For an episode which prominently featured every alicorn Hasbro has managed to shove into the show, it's astounding how few actual lines Princess Luna got. Does her voice-actress charge some sky-high price or something? Or can the writers just not be arsed to remember the personality they gave her?

So, like, on the one hand, this reinforces my Gamer Luna headcanon: she's waaaaaay nerdy and has basically no desire to involve herself in tedious "royal" functions like cooing over Hasbro's latest toy idea.

On the other hand, at some point in the story, I'm going to have Luna break into Sabaton's Carolus Rex and review her motivations for becoming Nightmare Moon. Seriously, if this is how bad everyone ignores her when she's not taking over the world, well, it's quite easy to see why she decided to take over the world!

In a related note, HOLY SHIT FLURRY HEART IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE, ACTUALLY-NEARLY-DESTROYED-THE-KINGDOM MLP VILLAIN YET SEEN!

Considering that Luna has the same voice actress as Rarity, it's definitely not a rate issue. The problem likely came down to character balance; there were already a lot of moving parts in the premiere, and Luna just wasn't that central to the plot.

1) Kept the two alicorns silent while they're shooting ALICORN LASERS at the storm.
2) Gave Luna that one line while they were doing that.
3) Let Luna say stuff about the baby instead of Celestia.

I know she's got the whole episode to herself about the Tantabus and all that, but seriously, can't she have some characterization outside of, "Got heartbreakingly ignored, TRIED TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD, got zapped with the orbital rainbow canon, now still hearbreakingly ignored but totally cleansed of all urge to take over the world because THAT WOULD BE EVIL AND SHE SURE AIN'T THAT ANYMORE NOSIREE"? She's an alicorn princess! Why does she get treated like some unremarked background pony?

Yeah, this is part of why I feel the episode would be stronger if the princesses hadn't actually been there. Get Dash to organize the pegasi to hold back the storm as long as possible, get Rarity to help hold the Heart together during the crystalling, and the narrative won't even miss Celestia and Luna. Plus, that way Flurry Heart's nature could be left tantalizingly vague rather than getting a complete non-explanation.

FLURRY HEART... I mean Flurry Heart alicorness was caused by that time travel mess cause by Starlight Glimmer. I'm calling it right now. Don't know how but would put money on my theory.

I mean, that's a good point. It's a really weird inversion: when both are on screen, Celestia speaks and Luna is ignored. When only one is on screen, it's always Luna.
