Why I Love Who I Love · 6:01pm Apr 18th, 2016
So essays are fun, right?
Yeah, that's my excuse for being quiet lately. Working hard (and making some risky gambles) on my essays has paid off, thankfully, but it has meant the writing front has slowed somewhat. I am trying to finish the next Symphony chapter, hopefully before next month because that's exam and there's no way I'm getting anything productive done during that time. Including revision... haha...
Still, figure I'd do a blog explaining why I love who I love! Maybe you'll get into my mindset a little from reading this. If you do, God save your sanity.
1. Pinkie Pie
Look at this kawaii ass bitch.
Pinkie Pie is my waifu, you know that by now (because I am a sad sad individual). However, I used to hate her, especially during season 1.
Going off on a tangent but the people who say Pinkie was better in Season One are fucking retarded. Her comedy style was definitely more Looney Tunes in nature but... she wasn't a character in season one. I'm sorry, but she wasn't. All we got from her is that she loves partying and doesn't like being alone but I don't think that's enough for a likeable character. No, we needed a reason why she was the way she was.
Luckily season 2 provided and in one simple song, summed up Pinkie's character better than any episode before it.
Pinkie is endlessly optimistic and strives to fill ponies' lives with joy. She exists to serve others, even if it's at the expense of herself. If that's not admirable, I don't know what is. And that's part of why I love her so damn much. I'm an optimistic guy myself. Knock me down and I'll be up by the next day, smile on my face. Pinkie too, is like this. That makes her extremely relateable to me.
Add to the fact that she's funny, adorable and loves a good laugh... well, what else do you want? She's gone from strength to strength each season, albeit a few rocky moments (but which character hasn't had that, honestly) and is very likely one of the more well-rounded characters in the show. We've seen her be happy, be cute, be sad, be angry, be annoyed, be cheeky... Pinkie may seem like a meme character to many but this kawaii li'l nigga has raaaaaange for days.
2. Sunset Shimmer
"Who the hell is this Starlight bitch and why is she Twilight's student now?" "Ah'm more worried at the fact a dirty Commie could infiltrate them so quickly. Race war now."
Funny how Sunset was a shit-tier villain but a great protagonist, and Starlight is the exact opposite.
Either way, Sunset is all about forgiveness and redemption. Starlight will probably be too but she's boring so far and Sunset will always be better, for these reasons...
-Better backstory
Sunset has the superior backstory. Maybe a bit cliche but being Celestia's personal student is a position that's ripe for a bit of self-indulgence. It's easy to see why Sunset became a villain, even if she was awful at being one.
-Better looks + voice
She's ginger. Also her voice turns me on a little. Props to her great voice acting and singing.
-She's given room to grow
Sunset is given the space she needs to grow into her own. Starlight, meanwhile, is gonna have to tag along Twilight and get cucked. I mean, for fuck's sake, a legitimate episode synopsis is Starlight getting all sad and Twilight reading her a Hearth's Warming story like she's five years old. Christ. Sunset, meanwhile...
-She's fiery
You know how refreshing it is for a protagonist to have some balls in this show? Very. Sunset gets fiery at times, despite how she tries to suppress it. Her shouting at Sci-Twi for being a retard? What a scene. She's not even demonized for it either, although she regrets it. It's a much more refreshing feeling from Twilight 'I'd forgive Hitler if he said sorry' Sparkle.
Sunset >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Starlight. Fight me faggots.
3. Lyra Heartstrings
Just look at that design. If you don't think she has the best background pony design, then screw your subjective taste.
Also her name is beautiful.
Can't say much else 'cause, y'know, background pone so her personality is largely headcanon. Oh well.
-JaketheGinger
P.S. The fact that we got an actual good Spike episode shocked me into actually doing something.
I'm still abstaining from comparing Starlight and Sunset until the former has had as much development as the latter. However, I will agree that these are all fantastic choices.
Well, I can't disagree about Lyra's design. After all, my favorite BGP shares it. As far as names are concerned, I prefer Diamond Mint to Mint Jewelup. Not that I have any objections to ponies being named after alcoholic beverages, but it's what I got used to. And Lemony Gem's quote on DM's first card is more apt with that name than with the other.

Well that's because as a Fan of Most Everything, you have to be a sane, rational person.
