104th Anniversary of RMS Titanic · 11:51pm Apr 14th, 2016
Hello everypony,
Tonight is the night that marks the 104th anniversary of that fateful night back in 1912. The night that will live on in history as one of the most memorable maritime disasters of all time.
At 11:40 pm on Sunday, April 14th, 1912, RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on her maiden voyage, resulting in small gashes being torn in five of her 16 watertight compartments. Her builders had said that she could stay afloat without moving with the first four compartments breached. But the iceberg opened five to the sea, dooming the liner to a watery grave.
Titanic stayed on the surface for two hours and forty minutes before breaking apart and slipping beneath the water at 2:20 am the next morning. Due to a shortage of lifeboats, over 1,500 people lost their lives that night, whether they went down with the ship or succumbed to hypothermia in the frigid water.
As a result of this disaster, many new laws were created. All ships must carry enough lifeboats for all passengers aboard. Watertight bulkheads must extend all the way to the boat deck. Radios would be operated 24 hours a day so no distress call could be missed. The International Ice Patrol was created with the intent of warning ships of icebergs in the shipping lanes of the North Atlantic.
But on this day, we must look back and pay our respect to all those who passed away on that night. May they all continue to rest in peace. And for the once great liner, even though she still sits on the bottom of the Atlantic, she will still be remembered as one of the most famous and luxurious ocean liners of all time.
Never challenge Poseidon claiming you have an unsinkable ship ...for he will sink it
What ,prey tell, will happen to the New one once it's launched
I'm watching A Night to Remember right now.
Also just a heads up Harms, there's going to be an anniversary podcast hosted by the development team for the game Titanic: Honor and Glory, who will cover the disaster in real time. The podcast starts at 10 p.m. Eastern Time and will run for three hours. The site can be found here: http://mixlr.com/titanichg/
Also the 151st anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln...

Sweet! A friend and I celebrate Titanic's anniversary every single year. It's such a year no one should forget.

Thank you for sharing that with me, my friend. I had fun while also learning about a few things that I hadn't known before.
3871219 There might have been at least one Jack, but not the Jack that you're thinking (at least none that were on record).
3871662 If I still had a computer that could run it, I'd be playing the game, but since I can't I'll settle for a little music. I'm pretty sure most that were fascinated with Titanic and computer games in the 90's remember this one.
But whatever you do...STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE!

Unfortunately, it's too late for that warning for me, my friend. That movie is a slap in the face and a punch in the gut to every single person who died on board the Titanic. I'm ashamed that I know of this movie's existence and it's sequel as well....
3871697 I hope the hearts of those Jacks will go on.
3872257 We do not speak of that which must not be named. 2 of these are bad enough, in fact both Jontron and Nostalgia Critic reviewed the first one, but I feel the second animated crapfest is far more insulting, as it blatantly lies saying there's room in the lifeboats for everyone AND says that NO ONE died. In fact, this is what each and every SINGLE ONE of those animators and people that worked on these two shitstorms AND how they truly came to be.
We can only hope no more atrocities come out of these people, for if there is another.....
3872717 Every night they do in case you were wondering.
