What I learned from the new episode · 2:30am Mar 27th, 2016
Breaking for spoiler stuff.
Babies are clearly evil and need to be stopped. Don't have kids.
I mean... that's what I got out of this.
But seriously. I was surprised that Starlight grew on me. She's pretty... awkward and not very comfortable with friendship quite yet, which works for this character. She's still learning and regrets what she did (I like how Spike acknowledges what happened and sort of makes a joke out of it, hah). She won't be around for every episode, but will have her own episodes, I'm guessing. So I'm happy with what they're doing with her thus far. There's plenty of room for growth and improvement, and it's showing. When Twilight mentioned putting the past behind them, though, I just went "Aww, shit, not everyone's gonna agree with that!" Lol!
I feel like this was much smaller than the typical season openers, nowhere near as big like or season five's. Personally, I don't mind; I just wonder if there's a theme for this season. I can't wait!
I kinda wish we got more of the other main characters here. That can often be a complaint, though, for a lot of season openings/endings. However, we had so many other characters to focus on, so I doubt they had much chance to do so. There's the rest of the season to give them attention. Besides, having Spike help is always a nice change, and he worked so well with Starlight. He can be great when they give him good writers.
Also, Starlight and Sunburst's ship name is Starburst and that is amazing. I'm not sure I ship them, but I just freaking love that name.
Good stuff so far; can't wait for the rest of the season!
I love that it is now officially canon that Celestia and Luna are ASCENDED alicorns.
3829523 So many headcanons have been buried. May they rest in dead.
I agree with everything you said, basically. ESPECIALLY about Spike. SPIKE YOU GO BOY! Can he please just be a princess already?
She grew a little in me too. I was stunned. And the intro, I love how awkward she is in the picture.
Flurry. Good gosh. Too adorable for her own good!
And now we now...Celestia and Luna WEREN'T born Alicorns! Wow. WOWWWWWWWWW
3829871 Give Spike them horn and wings. And he'll be the Princess of Being an Adorable Dragon Friend (the title's a work in progress)
All jokes aside, Flurry was pretty dang cute. All babbles and also destruction. Discord was probably applauding the little thing somewhere in the distance. Also, her clinging onto and liking Pinkie was an adorable touch!
Meth. Not even once:

I'm not sure how I feel about the ascended alicorn thing. On the one hand, it's not Faust's show anymore and I get characters are going to go in different directions...on the other, it kind of melts away all the history that was meant to be canonical? Is the Journal of the Two Sisters moot now?
3830069 I'm not familiar with the Journal with the Two Sisters; never got a chance to read it. So if I had to guess, anything that doesn't match with what's said outside the show isn't meant to be canonical?
3830705 Yes it says Luna and Celestia were born alicorns and that's why they're immortal which was backed up by Faust... But not anymore I guess. :S

Yes! Because honestly, what would Twilight do without Spike? Yes, she'd be able to still do a lot, but he's been there for her a lot in the past, and has helped her when no one else could have. And Starlight Glimmer? She would have gotten nowhere without him and his help. He was even able to hold back all the praise from the Crystal Ponies just to help her, and then comforted Starlight with a sweet little hug when she was sad about her first meeting with Sunburst. UGH, he is so wonderful, I love him.
THAT WAS THE CUTEST PART OF THE ENTIRE EPISODE!!!! If I had to choose the scene that made that filly dear to me, it was that part. She loves her Auntie Pinkie.
