So... yeah. After thinking long and hard about Wanderlust, I've realized that some of the themes in it (both in published and unfinished chapters) have started to become a bit more serious than originally intended. I figured a blog post would be the best place to explain what happened in detail.
When I started Wanderlust, the story was an attempt at making a consistently updated story about Spike. At the time, I didn't have a clear idea of where the story was headed, just that I wanted it to feature a character I felt needed a bit more love and have him face trials and tribulations that would see him mature over time.
As I've been writing, however, I've noticed two things:
One: The story has had some darker themes in it than I feel is acceptable for a story rated Everyone. This includes the last few chapters involving Trixie trapped in a contract by a corrupt casino owner. I've also started including more minor things that I'd not consider appropriate for kids, such as alcohol references and a scary scenario in the latest chapter.
Two: The story has started becoming less about Spike and more about the world around Spike. It still follows him, and will still see him mature, but its become less and less about just Spike's adventures and more about Spike participating in events around him. Again, see the chapters that introduce Trixie.
Since these themes and the like have changed to become significantly heavier than I intended, I've made the decision to change the ratings. I apologize for the sudden shift in tone, but I feel the story benefits in the long run. I promise not to repeat this mistake with future stories. Seriously, I'm sorry.
