Sorry, guys · 7:43am Mar 18th, 2016
This chapter's taking longer than I intended, for multiple reasons. One is that I've run into a small case of writer's block, which has resulted in a bit of constipated writing, unfortunately. Another reason is Stardew Valley...and I think that speaks for itself. Of course, the first two lead into the third reason, which is the fact that I have broken my flow, and I need to re-attain it so I can get back on track.
It shouldn't take a month or anything like that, but it might take longer than it has been with the last few chapters.
Now, if you don't mind...I have Starfruit to harvest.
Don't worry about it. Quality over quantity.
You've had both for a while, so no one is gonna complain.
You harvest that fruit .... in spaaace

It is the most valuable fruit in the game. I have harvested like...all of my 300-400 normal crops in one day, and made like 30-50,000 gold, as an estimate. In comparison, if I harvest like fifty Starfruit? I make anywhere between 70-95,000 gold, for a quarter of the effort.
You can probably guess what I'm gonna be growing exclusively in the Summer, in-game. Not to mention my greenhouse, where it's Starfruit all day, every day, every year.
3813944 I love you, I really do. And I love the things you do.
And i'm far above outdated 90's insults, but...

Go for blueberries!
(this is using base quality)
Starfruit: 13 day growth
2 harvest per season, 2 seed packets, 26 days total
income = 1600 (2x 800)
expense = 800 (2x 400 for seeds)
profit = 800 per season per section of land
Blueberry: 13 day growth, keeps producing 3 berries every 4 days
4 harvests per season, 1 seed packet, 25 days total
80g (berry) x3 (multiple berries) = 240g (per harvest)
income = 920 (4x 240)
expense = 80
profit = 840 per season per section of land
Keep in mind, this is just base crops, if you are far enough in and have the room for a fleet of kegs then you can make more off starfruit.
Preserve Jar = 50g + (2x base value) and takes 2 days
Keg = 3x fruit base value, 2.25x veg. base value and takes 7 days
Just remember not to put gold crops in either one, as they ignore the added value.
Berries are king!
Strawberries in spring (620g)
Blueberries in summer (840g)
cranberries in fall (1060g)
In the end though, the best crop is Ancient Fruit.
- grows in all 3 seasons
- keeps producing every 7 days
- is a fruit, so it can use the keg for 3x
- base value of 750g
Unfortunately it's pretty hard to get, and requires seed machines and planning to mass produce.

Psh, you call that an insult! I am a nerd! I've got an entire childhood of humiliation and insults to show for it.

Now see, you'd be correct, save for the fact that I'm also factoring in needing time to run around town and socialize, pick up jobs, go mining, chopping down trees, all that jazz. In that sense, Starfruit's better simply due to the fact that it gives me more time to get other things done. Plus with the right fertilizer, Starfruit grows particularly fast, and tends to give me a whole lot of golden ones.

Yah, hugs!

My calculations were flat costs, blueberries require no more water or tending than anything else outside of the harvest every few days instead of half a season, and that's AFTER the initial growth time, which is the same.
Remember, picking plants costs no stamina, and if you haven't noticed you can pick up rapidly by standing in the middle of a 3x3 area, holding right click, and moving the mouse over all 9 spots.
I'm in fall now with cranberries (so expensive to start), but I was fully harvesting my entire field (20x15 at the time) well before 9am when the market opens.
Also, this isn't harvest moon with a set pickup time, so feel free to water or pick your harvest at night before bed (just make sure you aren't up past midnight).
