ER250 Retooling · 1:08am Feb 7th, 2016

You've read that right, Empress Rarity's 250th Birthday is undergoing some adjustments. Nothing plot wise is changing, grammar updates as I run into them, but I have learned of a word that better clarifies Lady Merry Sapphire's job.

I was reading Cry for Eternity and some other story of which I can't remember, and came across the word "seneschal". So after the dozenth time of reading that word, I had to look it up. It is defined basically as the administrative officer for a noble house and connects closely with stewards and majordomos. A seneschal runs the household, manages the servants, organizes gatherings, attends to the actual head(s) of the house, and in certain situations, would attend functions in place of the head of the house.

This is what Sapphire was doing the entire time. Personal assistant is okay, but it isn't completely accurate of the title and sounds rather... informal. I feel like seneschal gives it more formal and mature feeling to the story as well as her position, and clearer and more accurate definition of Sapphire's job and responsibilities.

So the retooling will replace "personal assistant" with "seneschal". As well as a definition clarification in the author's note of the first chapter.

ER251 Chapter 2 is still in writing phases, I've been really busy as of late and only have time to write or edit on the weekends.

For now, this is it, I'll probably have another blog post next Sunday for Valentine's Day. Thank you all for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Good change, seneschal is definitely the right word.

Sounds good. See you soon!

it reads better with that change good call

I can almost see Queen Rarity coming to that conclusion sometime earlier in her reign as well. Starting with a personal assistant because that's what she would (or did) use when she was a business owner. Then sometime she stops and gets wide eyed as she realizes what her "personal assistant" does and gasps! She gets to use the fancy elegant word "Seneschal" now! and should have been using it for years!

Then after the citizens come out of the bunkers she's got all the palace paperwork fixed to show the new official job title.

I thought that was just one item on a long list of bad choices. Chalk it up to a lesson on thorough research.

It was more of a lesson based on observation than on poor research, but thank you for your comment.

That's, umm, that's a lot closer to the truth than you think. Like, dead on.

Bravo.
