    Small Writing Thing

I participated in another group writing project. You can find it Over here.

I was feeling very cross at the government when I gave Rainbow a metal pipe. I actually love her here though.

    Clang.

3:30 am Trivia · 8:36am Aug 22nd, 2012

Apparently the word "alicorn"'s usage as a replacement for winged unicorn can be traced back to Piers Anthony's Bearing an Hourglass (1984). Chapter Nine is named "Alicorn." In his Xanth series, he uses it in Demons Don't Dream and again in Pet Peeve.

While Xanth may have lost its charm after the first four to six books, the Incarnations of Immortality series is pretty damned good. Well, the original sieres that ends with And Eternity. I just found out he wrote an 8th one 15 years after he finished the the series. :|

Also, this looks legit
Alicorn (from the Latin ala [wing]+cornu [horn])

This has been 3:30 am trivia

Thank you for this  I can now justify staying up till 4:30

And kits comes through with yet another useless tidbit of information that will somehow benefit us users in the future!

:twilightoops: "How?"

That is the question now, isn't it, Miss Sparkle?

What on earth are you doing up at 3:30?! :pinkiegasp: Go to bed, silly!

303677
There is only one timezone. Central time OTTZ! :pinkiecrazy:

303680
feeding milk to babies

303682 Ahh. You poor, poor thing.

And now I know!

303679
Read the Incarnations of Immortality series. If nothing else, For Lofe of Evil is amazing and totally worth the read.

I'll see if I can hunt down this mysterious book series in the future, for right now, I have nothing in the way of income or transport.

303695
Lies! (link is not safe for sanity)

303696
I found a few copies used. Got the last two in the original series at a library book sale. If you're near a public library, they may carry it.

the more you know...

Already knew that. Because I contributed to the Wikipedia article on the subject. ...The internet does strange things to one's breadth of knowledge.

It's a bit early for this trivia, though, being only 9pm.

303697 that link... KILL IT... KILL IT WITH FIRE
What hath you shown me? That would make thine eyes bleed! :fluttershbad:

(sleepyness and mindfuck websites don't go well together :pinkiecrazy:)

Wow. Okay, I'd better go to bed before I start learning something. I fear what's in store for the 4:30 am trivia.

303697 What? That link confused the hell out of me

wow, random fact cannon scores a direct hit

Seems legit :moustache:

303697
I could not understand a single line of that.

Dear Celestia I love those books :pinkiehappy:

You know, I typically didn't like the term, and if I needed to refer to the Princesses as a species I called them Princesses.

But heck, if it's a Xanth term I'm on board with it.

303811
get a real timezone :pinkiegasp:

303859
If i want to refer to the princesses, sure. What if you mean a winged unicorn that isn't a princess. Like Cadance but w/o the title (though Blue Blood is a prince, it's easier to make new royalty than new alicorns). But yes! Xanth uses it. A unicorn and a griffon meet at a love spring... Alicorn is the result.

303814
I'd worry of you did. The only coherent parts at the racist ranting.

303722
Timecube is like that.

303713
I wish. I'm 90% sure the guy running that 'believes' it, whatever it is.

303916
The way I've always thought of it, the title of Princess/Prince is theocratic, and being a winged unicorn is proof of divinity. So Cadance gets the title no matter who her parents are. Blueblood gets the title by way of the old Unicorn nobility, which at one point was Divine in the Celestia/Luna sense (and why he gets to be Celestia's "nephew").

Edit: Or to put it another way, there is no Equestrian word for "A winged unicorn without title" because they never needed it.

We now return to our regularly scheduled pony time.

Was also used in an early installment of D&D in one of the monster codex (can't remember if it was a folio or a manual for that one it's been a couple decades) entries for unicorns.

303933
Interesting thought, but how would other races call one of the princesses species? I doubt a dragon or griffon would have the same connotations for what a princess is. How would, say, a changeling differentiate between their Queen's daughter and Celestia? Would it just be the "Pony Princess" then?

303697 WhatisthisIdon'teven

Central Time Zone is best Time Zone.

303989
Gilda, if asked, would identify Celestia as a pegasus, since she has wings and that's the important part, right? To a magical species she would be a unicorn, and to everything else she's just a pony.

303681
there are two timezones
Central and not-central
only weird ponies use the latter one:ajsmug:

Ha! Legitimacy! :rainbowdetermined2:
Many thanks for the tidbit.

Also, Eastern Time for life.

303697 I HAVE NO BELLY BUTTON!!!!!!!!:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

I've heard it before, but hadn't the word originally (that is--before Bronies came dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_rainbowkiss_flip.png ) named the substance that made the unicorn's horn?

I've never had a problem with the term alicorn other than that they don't use it in the show.

304133 Wah huh? They don't? CONSPIRACY!
Also, on an unrelated note, your avatar...it always manages to send a shiver down my spine...:trollestia:

304114
Yes, it meant that historically. My point is that "alicorn"=winged unicorn has been a thing before bronies. Bearing An Hourglass was published in 1984. I'm older than that, not a lot of bronies are. So it's not a term mlp fans made up.

303966
There is one, but the D&D alicorn is not a winged unicorn. It's a sylvan unicorn with a gnarled horn. I think it can run on mist or something.

303916 ...I think that I may have understood a bit of that rant...Is that a bad sign?
