Altered Visage Chapter 10 · 6:27pm Jan 28th, 2016
In which I speak of the tenth chapter of Altered Visage: "Heart in the Hive", also known as the search for 100 likes. Only five more to go! Woo! As always, spoilers for this chapter after the page break.
Initially, there was no chapter titled "Heart in the Hive". At first, chapter 10 was titled something else entirely and was approximately 13 000 words long. I realized a few weeks ago that there was basically two separate stories inside that chapter that would be much better served split in two. Now the climaxes of each section don't need to compete with each other for prominence. The latter half (or 5/13) retained the initial chapter 10 title and will be released next week.
Our dear protagonist is becoming slightly less pathetic as a changeling. She is actually learning how to use some magic, though as is said in the chapter itself, she doesn't know very much yet and what she does know is mostly foal's stuff. She still doesn't know how to fly, though. You think that would be one of the things she'd be taught. Oh well, presumably it was something she would be taught later.
We get to see several things coming back in this chapter. We get to see Pupa and Drymanid returning after being absent just one chapter. We get to see the mane six make reentering the story after being practically non-existent since chapter 7 (excepting that little piece at the end of 8 from Pinkie's perspective), and perhaps most importantly, we get to see the whole of chapter 4, Blue Eyes and Dark Alleys, become relevant to our MC thanks to Cadance and Shining Armor showing up again. With the reappearance of the mane six and the royal couple, so ends Chance's happy situation. Poor Chancey.
I'm sure there's plenty more I could talk about here, but to be honest, I don't really feel like doing much ranting today.
