I've not encountered this question actually here but sometimes when I take off my lurking cloak elsewhere I'm sometimes asked this question. My general answer is "I'm not much of a shipper actually," with a very apologetic blushy smiley face like uh this one 
Or if I'm feeling silly, I just say "Private Iceland and Dew Doe, because shipping your own characters is the safest ship." 
However, I have actually not been asked this question at all lately but during the past few days I have encountered a few shipping fics as I scoured Fimfiction for stories to read, some I enjoyed, some I didn't quite get, and others I went NOPE!!! 
So that actually got me thinking about shipping in general and who I would like to see in a relationship on the show. Since I haven't posted a new blog for the past two days (I'm still trying to post new blogs regularly) I'm going to ponder a little about this. See you after the break.
Now once again I must wave my general answer of "I'm not much of a shipper actually." The thing with me, I am probably one of the least romantic guys you can meet and I generally just let the shows do the job for me regarding who is in what relationship. Essentially, I let the writers and show creators decide who is with who. So if there is a official canon pairing, I tend to favor that one over a fanon pairing.
Now with the MLP there is actually a much more leeway considering none of the main cast are officially with anyone. We have been teased, Rarity certainly seems to want a stallion in her life at some point and we all know how Spike feels about her and then there was the whole Flash Sentry and Twilight incident. Then there was that devious teasing with Big Mac and Marble Pie.
Now I'm sure many are thinking "but you wrote that Derpy and Time Turner shipping fic, surely you must ship them?" Well... yees.... and nooooo
Given, it's one of the few fanon pairings that I like the most, especially if it's Derpy and plain old Time Turner or Doc, like we saw him in Slice of Life. I'm not as fond of it if it's supposed to be The Doctor. I personally like the Doctor more as a grumpy granpa to his companions than a romantic interest. I wrote the Time Keeper mostly as an experiment, but I will still concede that I used a fanon pairing I like the most.
So do I actually ship anyone personally? Do I have a OTP?
No. No I don't.
There is no complicated reason behind it really. I'm just not really interested that much in shipping. I have no qualms however to tease and I will if I have a story idea pair up characters just to see how it goes. Believe me I actually have few pairing ideas I might want to test out later just for the fun of it.
However I will now go over the mane cast, all four princesses and main villains and tell you what shippings I enjoy with them and which one I go NOPE. Then I'm mostly talking about reading what others do rather than what I personally see, so these are not my ideas of who should be with who, but I'm not against reading stories that have them. Except the ones I've NOPE'd over, those I do not read.
Twilight Sparkle: Top favorite to me, Flash Sentry. I just enjoy seeing people doing the poor guy some justice and I think he would do well with Twilight personally, but that's just me.
Next in line: King Sombra, although I personally do not see King Sombra being very interested in any of the Princesses or the mane 6 for the matter (I will talk about that more when I reach him on this list) I still like the most seeing him shipped with Twilight because she would probably want to make an attempt to reform him if he shows genuine interest in reforming.
NOPES: Shining Armor, Cadance, Celestia, her Mom, her Dad, Spike. Do I really need to explain why?
Applejack: She is actually tough one for me, because she's actually in show canon been shown to be rather resistant to amorous stallions (Trenderhoof anyone?). However I don't mind my favorite Earth Pony getting some love so Caramel actually is my favorite to see. (Even if I shipped him with Sassaflash in the Time Keeper). I think I'm rather biased on this because I'm fan of The Taco Bandit and his comic Caramel's story.
Next in line: Erm... Like I said, AJ is a tough one. She strikes me as someone who just has no time for it and can't be bothered, she got a farm to run. So sadly, there is no second that I would go out of my way to read.
NOPES: Bic Mac, Applebloom, Granny Smith, Braeburn, heck anyone in the Apple family. Spike Anyone noticing a trend with me?
Rarity: Now speaking of someone I would have thought was too career oriented for love, Best Pony has shown herself to be very stallion interested, having at least on two occasions been going silly over a stallion But now people are going to go WHAAA??? because I actually love the most stories where they somehow manage to get Rarity and Blueblood together, especially if the process is torture for Blueblood.
Next in line: Seriously though with how interested Rarity is in stallions, it's really easy to read various pairings with her because she strikes me as someone who is at least willing to give a guy one chance to win her over, let's just say I'm very open minded to almost anyone who is not related to her or underage.
NOPES: Sweetie Belle, mom, dad, Spike (I'll explain this when I get to Spike).
Rainbow Dash: Soarin all the way, this is the one ship I really could see happen. I think Rainbow Dash would like a companion that can keep up with her, and well Soarin is already a Wonderbolt so he qualifies.
Next in line: Soarin aside it's actually really difficult for me to see RD interested in romance, much like AJ, she seems more oriented towards he career. So there aren't any other ships I go out of my way to read with her.
NOPES: Scootaloo, Spike.
Fluttershy: I've been won over by the Sombrashy shippers and yes that is my favorite Fluttershy ship to read even though, as I mentioned above, I really don't see King Sombra interested in any of the main characters. But seriously, the lord of fear + the pony afraid of even her own shadow, I just love this concept. Talking about opposites attract. 
Next in line: Butterscotch, yes her rule 63 double. That's one of the few times I've nearly collapsed from too much cute.
NOPES: Angel Bunny, any of her animal friends, Spike.
Pinkie Pie: Oh boy, Pinkie Pie. I've got to be honest, I've not really read any ship with her in it that I've liked so far. Pinkie is a difficult character for me to wrap my head around, she is just so extroverted that she utterly confuses me. So sorry Pinkie, I have no favorite ships with you in it.
Ack alright fine, I like the idea of her and Cheese Sandwich together
NOPES: Mr. Cake (married), Mrs Cake. (Again Married). The baby Cakes (I should not need to explain this one), anyone in the Pie family, Spike
Spike: So as you may have noticed, I am not a fan of Spike being shipped with any of the Mane 6. Even Rarity. I realize the show has gone out of its way to show Spike having a crush on her, and even hinted that she is well aware of it. However I can't get around the fact that he is a boy, a young boy, it's just too much of an obstacle for me to get past. He has a puppy dog crush, that he will probably grow out of. In fact I'm just not comfortable with the idea of shipping Spike with anything at all when he is still just a boy, I'm not one to age characters up.
However I will concede that if this happens when he is a full adult, I can more accept it. But while he is still, as the show portrays him, a baby dragon. It's all NOPE!
Now Time for the four Princesses, well we already counted Twilight, so it's only the three Princesses
Celestia: King Sombra, I like the Reflection arch in the comics and I found Celestia utterly adorable when in the presence of Alternate Sombra. So this is more geared towards him, but regular Universe Sombra, if he really were to go after a princess? Why would he go after any of the lesser Princesses? Luna is going to kill me for this line isn't she?
Next in line: I'm afraid the Reflection arch has kind of spoiled everything for me. There is no next in line.
NOPES: Twilight Sparkle, Luna, Cadance, I'm not too fond of Discord shipping either, I'll explain when we get to him.
Luna: I find myself conflicted with Luna. Because of the four princesses, she's practically shipped with everything and I've honestly found very few stories that I've enjoyed with her. I like Luna most like she's often portrayed in the comics, brash, still a little out of touch with the times, so I find her most believable with someone who could keep up with her much like Rainbow Dash. So one of the few stories I find her believable is King Sombra. (Geez, I'm pimping the guy I personally think wouldn't be interested in any of the princesses)
Next in Line: No one really.
NOPES: Celestia, Cadance, not ecstatic over Discord either.
Cadance: Sadly the show has put a strangle hold on me for any shipping because, she's married, so there is only Shining Armor.
Next in Line: None, just Shining Armor, it's too canon for me to even touch it.
NOPES: Just about anything due to being married.
Right, time for the villains. I'll just get King Sombra out of the way.
King Sombra: Now as I mentioned already in the three other characters I enjoy reading him shipped with, I actually personally don't see him even remotely interested in any of the main cast at all. On a good day he would rather just kill them, on a bad day he would rather torture them and then kill them. I just don't see him really looking at them as anything but enemies to be disposed of as quickly as possible. But as I mentioned above, Twilight, Fluttershy and Celestia are the ones I enjoy reading the most.
Next in Line: I'm actually slowly coming around to Queen Chrysalis, because I just see them arguing exactly like an old married couple.
NOPES: I've actually not encountered a pairing with King Sombra that I've noped over.
Discord: Alright confession time. I'm not much of a fan of Discord (ducks rotten tomatoes). I liked him fine as a villain but when they reformed him, I was hesitant. The show just gave themselves a character that is really difficult to do right when it's on the heroes side, a character that can, depending how you interpret him, fix everything with a snap of a finger. There are very, very, very, very few stories with Discord in them that I genuinely like.
As for shipping, personally I just don't really see Discord interested in such a thing. I actually find it a little jarring to see him being romantic, just doesn't click right in my mind. That's just me however, so no I do not read or enjoy Discord shippings very much.
Queen Chrysalis: Now thanks to Onomonopia and his various portrayals of the fandom's favorite bug queen, I've actually started to slowly come around to liking her. To the point that I enjoy romantic fics with her. So what do I enjoy seeing her in?
She actually benefits for being who she is, the Queen of the Changelings and really would just be doing this just to get some food, so I'll take a look if it has her in it, even if it's Shining Armor.
NOPES: Since I don't see Chrysalis as overly picky, I'm not as averse to anything with her in it.
Tirek: I must confess again, I became a moderate fan of Tirek when seeing him dupe Discord. I had read some fics back then that I really did not care for where Discord was just overpowered and got away with everything, and seeing him manhandled on the show just put a smile on my face. It was like the show staff was telling us "just so you know guys, Discord isn't all powerful." As for shipping, I think Tirek is too racist (speciesist?) to be with a pony, he belittles them at every turn and considers them beneath him. So no, can't really say I have read anything with him that I thought worked or enjoyed. Guess it's all NOPES then.
Starlight Glimmer: It's my Waifu!! No NO just kidding, I don't have a Waifu, seriously. Actually her former right front hoof stallion Double Dimond is the lucky or unlucky sucker I like seeing shipped with our crazy equalist/now reformed friendship student.
Next in line: None so far, though actually one of the pairing ideas I have is her with King Sombra. (I'm not obsessed with King Sombra, I don't know what you're talking about. 
)
NOPES: Not seen anything yet.
So that's the mane 6, Princesses and villains (yes, yes, I know Starlight and Discord are former villains) with the pairings that I like reading the most. Now hold on, what is this? I mentioned nothing about same sex relationships? What is this madness?
Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind them, I've even read them and even enjoyed few of them. However, I do not go out of my way to find them, if I stumble upon one that catches my fancy, it will go on my reading list. They are just not on my top favorite to read and this list was only going over those.
