Catching up on G5 - And my general history with pony. · 5:08pm March 15th

I've been catching up on the two G5 pony shows, Make Your Mark and Tell Your Tale, for the past week or so.

There were no big underlying reasons why I fell so far behind. After the G5 movie, which I liked fine, TYT just didn't end up catching my interest that much and MYM didn't either so I kind of just ended up drifting away from both.

Until this last week or so.

After taking this impromptu break from new pony content, :scootangel: I decided to give both shows another shot. Aaaaaand immediately regretted not having followed both from the beginning. :twilightsheepish:

Yes, I fell in love all over again. It actually felt like when I was first catching up with FIM all the way back in early 2011. I probably just needed that break. I have a feeling I was just a little bit burned out on pony, G4 had just ended and I just wasn't as ready for a new show as I thought I was back then.

This has made me reflect a little bit on my history with My Little Pony in general.

As some of you may know, I am from the original run. I'm a G1, all the way back in the 80's. I watched the original specials, the first movie, My Little Pony 'n Friends. I even watched My Little Pony Tales. :pinkiegasp: And no, I do not actually recoil in horror at the thought of that show, I do actually have fair bit of nostalgia towards it, even if it was not exactly the best thing to come from G1.

Yes, My Little Pony Tales is G1, not G2. G2 never had a cartoon, although it's often mistakenly called a G2 cartoon. At best, it had a pony-raising computer game and a few comics that only came out in Europe.

As for G3, I did miss that one. At that point my interests lay elsewhere and though I was aware that My Little Pony toys still existed, I was never truly aware that any more cartoons had been produced. I seriously didn't even know of any of them until I became aware of G4 and FIM and was busy catching up with that one. If someone had lied to me back in 2011 and told me that was G3, I would have totally believed them. But no, I quickly learned that FIM was G4, which made me go:

"G4??? When did we have G3? or G2 for the matter??" :rainbowhuh:

That's how I learned that G2 never had a cartoon and learned about the various stuff G3 had produced.

Now, even if I have joked about G3 (once I learned it actually existed), it's never been truly serious. I've seen some of the G3 stuff and honestly?

I don't think it's that bad at all. :twilightblush:

Sure, it's not great, it's not something I would actively go out of my way to watch. But I never felt any pain or braincells dying from watching it. Like I said, I watched unironically My Little Pony Tales and actually like that show, G3 got nothing. :rainbowwild:

But seriously, G3 is not the worst I have ever seen, not the best either, but far from the worst.

Anyway, early 2011 is when I was lurking on forums and came across strange memes with familiar looking pastel equines. Curiousy got the better of me and I then learned of FIM and have been watching that ever since. Heck, I joined this site in 2012, so you can tell how deep I am. :rainbowlaugh:

And now I also head into G5 territory once again. I still have two chapters left to watch of MYM and about 20 or so episodes left of TYT

I ain't leaving Pony anytime soon.
