Snap Reviews… · 5:36am Nov 29th, 2015
On the Derpibooru forums, I've spent all of Seasons 4 and 5 writing abnormally long snap reviews for every episode, usually within 48 hours of first-run. My rules are simple… (1) One watch-through and then write immediately; (2) NO reading what anyone else said about the episode before posting.
Some have claimed I have a 3rd rule: at least one swipe at Twilight Sparkle per review. That one's not true; I give props to Twilight on the occasions she's handled well. I just happen to have tired of her character for many reasons since my early days as a fan (circa late-March 2011 to be exact).
I had no idea whether anyone cared about my columns; I wrote them for me. But a glitch in DB's servers resulted in nearly two years worth of my posting history – comments and forum posts – disappearing into the ether. I didn't even know until someone who actually enjoyed my reviews informed me about it. Unfortunately, I didn't save any of those reviews, but the situation gave me an idea…
Due to my growing tired of spats with other DB users over, among other things, the perceived quality of the IDW comics – I'd become pretty much the only voice of positivity before I gave up and checked out – and my wanting to move on from review columns that no one reads to… actual stories that no one reads, I've been spending a lot more time here. And now that I've gotten the hang of the blog feature…
TL;DR – I plan to rewrite the forty-something Snap Reviews I did for S4 & S5 and post them here.
Since it's been so long since I've seen most of the show (there's plenty of episodes I only watched once or twice, years ago), I may as well do mini-reviews of older episodes too, although they can't technically be snap reviews since I've already seen them. Still, I'm curious to see how they hold up against the newer stuff.
It's only 109 separate columns, plus 3 EQG movies, plus comics. How hard could it be?
Yeah, this is going to be a chore, but I'll still do as much as I can, when I can.
