By request, here is some data regarding the relative levels of violence in the series. Compiling an accurate list of every event will be too complicated, and it depends on your rating of "PG", so let me just present the data in a graph:
From this it appears that the most violent portions of the series were:
- Between Eljunbyro and Innavedr (this includes Zenith's death, the showdown at Sapphire Ravine, Floydien's strobe-light-fight, and the escapes in early Innavedr)
- End of Innavedr (the battle of Blue Nova)
- Mid-Odrsjot (This appears to cover the Lightning Bearer takeover, Fortis' evisceration, and fighting in Sacred Hold)
- End of Odrsjot (Josho vs. Seclorum, Rainbow vs. Nevlamas, etc.)
- Mid-Urohringr (Smooze & Naga, PIlate vs. Razzar)
- Utaan, the early Talon chapters and the battle of Red Barge.
This data was collected using a maximum-entropy Naive Bayes classifier, using several selected chapters depicting battle scenes as its primary training data. Because of the non-selective nature of this classifier, it is quite likely to have some inaccuracies, for example feature tuples like the names of combatants will be weighted heavily towards the "violent" outcome even in cases where that character is not fighting at all. However, I feel this is enough to give a rough estimate.
