Top Five Games I Hate but Everyone Likes · 2:43am Nov 24th, 2015

This is an interesting subject, no?

Oh boy, it's that type of list again... Well, I was planning on doing it one day, so I suppose now's a better time than ever. Yes, there are inevitably going to be a few games out there that I don't like, be it for the gameplay, the story, the characters, and just about everything really. Obviously, Animal Crossing will be on this list, but please know that if you enjoy ANY of these games, I don't blame you. You've clearly found something I haven't in the game, so good on you!

However, be warned that I WILL bash any of your favorite games on this list, so if you're not up for that, turn away now. That being said, just let me get my Flame Shield to protect me from all the hateful comments, this is my Top Five Games I Hate but Everyone Likes list!

Number 5:
Kid Icarus: Uprising

Why do I hate this game...? I tried, guys, I really did. I played all the chapters, I fought all the bosses, I laughed at all the incredibly well-written humor. But I just couldn't get into it. For one, the controls are some of the worst I've ever had the displeasure of working with. It feels like you're in a constant struggle to control where you're going, as you stop way to slowly and run way too fast sometimes. When you're flying in the air, it's fine as the touchscreen actually works well as an cross-hair, and I felt comfortable moving my stylus around while I controlled with my D-pad and fired with my R button. On land is what I'm talking about when the controls start sucking. The camera is also atrocious, constantly moving when you don't want it to. However, I don't HATE the game, really. It did have some nice pluses I'm down with, like different weapons, the entertaining writing, and Hades. Just... Hades. But how am I supposed to enjoy all that when it's a struggle to control where you're going?

Number 4:
Animal Crossing

UGH!!! Again, I tried, but I swear to god I gave up faster than Speedy Gonzales on a caffeine rush. I ended up selling my copy for a nice ten bucks. I used that money to get Smash Bros 3DS, so money well spent! I cannot tell you how utterly boring the game is. And yes, I know there will be people who say that the game is used for relaxation purposes, and I can understand where they're coming from. But that isn't my type of relaxation. What is my type of relaxation, you ask?

That. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy Animal Crossing. That's not to say it's a bad game, it's just not for me. I need constant action in my games to hold my interest, and obviously a "relaxing" game like this isn't my type. Besides, a game that practically begs you to play it all the time is certainly one I won't be going back to anytime soon.

Number 3:
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

MISSIONS!! Hey, have you heard about those missions? You gotta check out these missions! Missions are life! Can't go without missions! Missions, missions, MISSIONS!!! Okay, okay, I don't hate mission games. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, two of my favorite games of all time, had missions and I'm okay with them. Monster Hunter is a game basically about missions, yet I gush over it whenever I have the chance. But it's when missions are poorly executed that I get infuriated. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is a game that, when trying to play an earlier level, makes you read ALL the dialogue from that mission, including the tutorial. And yes, you could argue that the only reason I'm complaining about this is the fact you need to re-read everything. But that's just it. Having to read everything again and watch all the cutscenes again made me nearly rip my brain out. It was mentally exhausting. To think this all could have been fixed with a freeplay mode...

Number 2:
Star Fox 64

I remember one of the very first video games I ever played was Star Wars: Rouge Squadron for the PC. Even today, I still find extreme enjoyment in playing it because of how fun the game is, even if it does have its poor renders and models every now and then, and I'll go back to the game about once a year just to relive a few hours of my childhood. Then someone showed me Star Fox 64 and told me it was just like Star Wars! Naturally, I was excited! But then I played the game and was thoroughly disappointed. But why? Was it because I was hoping for something as great as Star Wars and overexerted my expectations? Or perhaps it was because it was a rail shooter with a Kid Icarus-like feel to it? Because I couldn't freely move as I wished and was only going in one direction, I felt like the game was playing me and not the other way around. Even now as a teen I still can't get into the game because I love the freedom to do things, like how Star Wars: Rough Squadron gave me. That new Star Fox game seems to fix this problem I have, so I don't hate the Star Fox series as a whole; perhaps just this game.

Number 1:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I just went there, yes. First of all, I am so sick and tired of people calling this the Grand Magnum Opus of modern-day gaming. Nothing can get better than this, they would say! Oh really? Because I can think of several reasons why that's not true, coming in the form of Chrono Trigger, Undertale, and even a future game and my favorite Legend of Zelda to date, A Link Between Worlds. Ocarina of Time is not a bad game by any means. In fact, I actually liked the 3DS version a lot more than the N64 version. I love the music and the environments, and the final boss will go down in history as one of the greatest bosses of all time. What I'm trying to say here is... I don't hate Ocarina of Time, but rather I hate what it has become: a mere tool people used to complain about something. Because of this, I, and I'm sure a few others, have grown exhausted of this and simply sees OOT as an okay game. And the truth is... that's the truth. It's just okay. I feel as if people who grew up with the game refuse to accept anything else as superior to Ocarina of Time and thus believe the game to be better than it actually is, even going so far as to saying the new and clearly more advanced version of the game on the 3DS is inferior, which I find infuriating. Long story short, OOT is an okay game and I don't hate it entirely for itself, but rather the dark void it fell into. I guess some people just can't let go of the past...

Pun very much intended.

And that was my list! Everyone please know that if you like Ocarina of Time and truly do think it's the best game of all time, I don't hate you. You can like whatever the hell you want, even if it's a Hannah Montana game. Or De Blob. Or anything, really. And if you did feel offended by this, you can take your revenge on me soon, as I'll be making another list about the Top Five Games I Like but Everyone Hates! Get your own Flame Shield at the ready!

Oh, and if you're wondering why Earthbound isn't on this? After some persuasion, I got past the first town and am now on my official adventure. Which means yes, I am starting to like it. I'll never get used to the menu and talking mechanic, however...

I agree with all your reasons for these choices, especially for that last one. I can see why you hate there games. I'm curious to see what your Five Games You like but Everyone hates.

.

Yes, I already have a few ideas in mind.

hmm... mine, in no particular order
Legend of Zelda: Oracle games
Assassin's Creed games (1 2 and 3 just didn't do it for me)
GTA. Like, all of them.
Super Paper Mario
Animal Crossing

One game I hate that everyone else seems to like, is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I've never even played any of those.

3565006
Nice choices! Personally, I actually like a couple of those games, but to each their own, right?

3565007
Literally my second favorite Zelda game ever. No worries though, we all have our likes and dislikes, right?

3565016 Right, the only reason I didn't like it was because I couldn't beat the first part of it. I gave up on it after that.

3565009
Any of the ones I listed? Well, they might be worth your time, they just weren't for me. :applejackunsure:

3565022
lol :rainbowlaugh:
I will agree the first part is rather lengthy and prolonged to the point that it can be infuriatingly tedious. However, once the main game begins, it's actually really good. In many ways, it's much like how I view Earthbound: shite in the beginning, but glorious all after that.

3565036 That's funny, I gave up on Earthbound too. My game file wouldn't save, so even when I got to the happy happy village it didn't save anything there, and I had to go all the way back there day and night. So I gave up.

I love kid Icarus uprising. The story, writing, humor, and characters. The land controls... not quite right. I mean if it was better this would have been a solid 10 or 9 but well you know. It is do able and tons of games have way worse controls than this but if they just made it better this would have been a must have for any 3ds.

3565055
And like I said, if you like it, that's great; you found something I didn't! But as the game stands, I simply can't tolerate it.

3565061 Ture, everyone has there own thoughts and opinions but can you answer these 3 questions for me.
Did you find the characters enjoyable?
Was it funny at times?
Was the story good?

3565064
All of the above. I'm a sucker for clever writing. :twilightsheepish:

3565069 As long as you like those 3 (especially the characters) it's alright in my book.

Alright, I give you this one. I've played four of these, and while I like them, to each their own. I'm not budging on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, though.:trixieshiftleft:

3565013 Also Clash of Clans and Candy Crush, as well as their various clones

3565167
Eh, to each horse and their own pineapples, right?

3565267
I believe Clash of Clans and Candy Crush were clones of other games...

3565285 But you know what i mean?

I haven't played Luigi's mansion dark moon yet, but I agree with most of your choices. I personally love kid Icarus uprising, bit I will admit the control is probably the worst part of the game. Starfox is also something I will pick up and play (although when I say that I'm more talking about the 3ds remake where I can just pick a level and go). But I agree on the others.

Hmm...when it comes to some of those games I am in agreement. Especially OoT as it is about than fans of this game are as tolerable as the fans of FF7. I have my own list of games I hate that everyone likes.

3565343
To each their own.

3565871
Really? May I see? :rainbowhuh:
