    Sincere Shilling!

If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

The Mare Behind the Mare by Eakin

He continues to be one of my favorite authors. As I’ve mentioned at least once before, cartoon pony politics is one of my favorite sub-genres of ponyfic. As long as it’s show-ready versions. I’ve got no real taste for grim and gritty or ‘realistic’ politics with ponies. I want silly and ridiculous and over the top politics. Like the entire palace going into a frenzy when Twilight Sparkle comes to visit. Comedic and slice-of-life style politics. With just a pinch of meaning to give it texture. This story delivers everything I like in spades. Plus it is a good alicorn Twilight Sparkle learning to be princess story. Which is another favorite sub-genre of mine. As well as being a pretty good light character study of both Rarity and Twilight Sparkle.

Of course that’s all just the minor details. There is a throw-away single line comment about Twilight Sparkle talking with Dotted Line about chemistry one afternoon. Which means it gets 6 out of 5 stars.

Applejack Goes To Magic School For Some Reason by JasonTheHuman

Lots of fun. I was giggling for pretty much the whole thing. Sort of an alternate history. I had thought it was present day Applejack, but it turned out to be a silly one-shot where young foal Applejack goes to magic school and meets a young Twilight Sparkle when they both show up for the first day of school.

The Stars Ascendant by Titanium Dragon

Good, but not great. Not as much worldbuilding in here as I would have liked. Basically this story is Princess Celestia telling Princess Luna that Princess Twilight Sparkle is crazy powerful. Well written, I just didn’t personally get much out of it. Would still recommend it though.

Her Scarf Fluttered in the Absence of Wind by ArgonMatrix
[story link] [my original review]

I liked this. Just can’t quite put my finger on exactly why. Might just be the general high quality of the writing with nothing really good or really bad to stand out. I want to think that Cadance goes back to visit the dragon once she becomes an Alicorn.

Heat-Sink Spike Helps Celestia Cool Off by Blank!
[story link] [my original review]

Bwuh? That was weird. Story from spike’s perspective where he mostly uses slang-type language. Not sure I’d recommend it. It kind of wanders and doesn’t really go anywhere. Did have a single neat idea. That summer is the result of Celestia’s heat cycle. When she gets fertile and ready for loving, the sun blazes brighter and that’s why summer is so hot.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
