This. This right here is the reason I've moved writing and interacting with Fimfic to so far down on my priorities list. Because I have to deal with PMs like this:
I am convinced that the judges are if not retarded then at least completely stupid and have no idea what writing really is. And while I might have at some point, I truly don't care about what you or anyone thinks anymore. I've been told that swearing will get me banned, so just think of the most horrific diseases you can think of, multiply that by all the swear words you know, and you'll have a pretty good understanding of my opinion of you.
Now I'm gonna block you. Have a nice (short) life.
This is one of hundreds of others like it that I get whenever I do anything with regards to this website. Small wonder I'm so reluctant to post anything here anymore.
... You care what negative feedback, especially from short sighted folk like that? I mean, sure, there's no harm in peeking once in a while through the dredges, to seek the scope of what some people are talking about, but come on. That's not even feedback. Especially if it's the cliche "I AM COVERING MY EARS AND SHOUTING NYHANYHANYAH I CAN'T HEAR YOU OR ANYONE ELSE ANYMORE!" type.
You may be reluctant to post stuff, but you might end up forgetting, that over the amount of hate/diatribe, there are -quite- a number of people that want to see more, especially from those who are too silent/can't/don't want to speak up for themselves.
Now, I'm not sure if I know what's going on in here, and I'm pretty sure you've read it all, seen it all, etcetera, but I really don't think you should pay attention to some of the people who PM you messages with the subject matter that I had mentioned in the first bit above. But, the thing is, you also have to keep in mind, that some of the people who blather on like that, haven't submitted a single story, or snippet in their entire life, or if they have, have never submitted it to the public eye, and as such, can be discredited. (Certain subjects do not apply, but that's something different.)
You should really be writing, and posting stuff for you, or even to post on behalf of your fans/followers/watchers. Heck, there's an Upvote and Downvote section for a reason, and if the ratio is to be believed, then you still have a 19:1 ratio on Tia's reign of Terror, as JUST an example.
But hey, what the hell do I know? I'm just some random shmoe on the internet, with no prior history of reading, proofreading, or having published a series of books in my life!

I am unsure if Tias reign of terror is #1 on my list of fics I'd wish would update, but it's one of a bare handful of the hundreds on my list.
All of these share an interesting 'world breaking' premise and the way the characters cope.
Not coincidentally, many of these have people who object to the 'world breaking' event as it makes them unhappy that 'X' is not canon, when that's the whole point.
I wish writers like you would be better able to ignore the negative comments than some that seem fueled by them.
(here I'm thinking of a 700K fic with 30:132 likes/dislikes)

I'd hate to see you driven off on their account. You're certainly a better writer than any of them.
The problem with avoiding the shit-talkers by not interacting with this site is that the ones who do enjoy your work get the punishment, while the shit-talkers who want you gone to begin with go forward with joy in their grubby little hearts at having driven you off with their bile.

I certainly wouldn't hold it against you if you don't want to judge contests anymore. But if you do, then maybe put a reminder in the contest rules that entrants should write for fun, and not strictly for the purpose of competition.
And regardless, please do keep writing your own stories
I thought of Tia's Reign of Terror earlier today while watching the fundraiser stream for Them's Fightin' Herds. Lauren Faust was talking about the moral dilemma of presenting predators as villains in the game, though they only kill to survive. Then I remembered Celestia's "solution", and feels were had. Twilight may have already hugged her, but she still needs more hugs. And also kisses. And possibly birds.
All it would take is "one." Some folks may not have even wanted to comment until someone said something. And the ball gets rolling. This goes both ways for positive and negative feedback. So don't give up. ;P Just keep going.
Do you for you, and all that good stuff. Now back to the darkness from whence I came.

I'm really sorry that that sort of shit happens to you. Hell, it happens to all of us, really. Trust me when I say I've lived through an extreme amount of shit in my life, so I know how you feel. I've had several people, some of them quite well-known on this site, comment on my stories saying what is essentially 'your story is bad, you should never have written it, and you're a terrible person'. It's crazy how common it is for people to belittle others to make themselves feel better, not just on this site. I always try to remember that, for every obnoxious jackass, there's ten decent people who just stay quiet: the silent majority.
But, hey, I'm not going to tell you how to feel. All I'll say is what people tell me (which, to be honest, is a lesson I'm still learning): You write for you, not for others.

Know that for any given "hater" full of unkindness, there are a hundred people here who love your writing and support you. Just look at how many people follow you- try not to listen to the few who have mothing nice to say about anyone. It isnt easy, but we have a tendency to believe or focus on negative thoughts, whether they come from ourselves or others, when there are so many things which are wonderful about us. I love your stories, and I hope you stick around, cuz your awesome
