It's been marked as cancelled now. It was my first foray into writing since... Early 2000's and was never meant to be the main story. The main story is likely unable to happen now and the odds of me picking up Foalhood again are pretty slim.
It was always the prequel to a slightly more exciting (but still not all that exciting) a fic about his day to day life in Ponyville. Something that I had designed to get my feet wet and develop the characters from simple profiles to fully imagined persons.
What follows are spoilers for Foalhood:
Seamstress: She started as a disposable character but developed along the lines of a close friend and created a love triangle with Angel and Maple. As she developed more and more (without my consent) she became more important... and eventually her death became the catalyst for Maple to move to Ponyville.
In the sequel: Dead but not forgotten, Maple lives surrounded by reminders of his mistake. He even plants a sapling he names in memory of her, sometimes going as far as to talk to it about his problems. He always feels guilty when he runs into Rarity, seeing her as what Seam could have possibly been.
Maple Leaf: Obviously Maple is going to take after his dad with his leaf changing skills. Used to keep the sap flowing year round he becomes a valuable member of Seam's crew to help run the sugar bush (actual term for a maple farm) which lets her persue her desire to become a fashionista. This constant harvesting leads to trees getting sick and dying, eventually pushing the bush to the edge of failure, Maple figures this out and starts using his magic in different ways to help, when Seam taps the first tree of the season after Maple sets things right the tree breaks and falls on her resulting in her death.
In the sequel: he moves to Ponyville to escape the guilt and shame and opens up his own sugar bush with the help of various ponies around town, pledging that he won't make the same mistakes ever again. His "sugar high" mode makes him the only pony near capable of keeping up with Pinkie Pie. There was an optional romance arc between them that was in consideration. Another late added optional storyline was that the buzz of his wings during his sugar highs also raised concerns about him being a changeling.
Angelic Note: Her special talent being music able to bring out the purest emotions in a pony. Actually the character with the least development planned since Seamstress stole a lot of her thunder. Her feelings are very strong for Maple, but after some foalish behaviour and such with Seam she leaves Maple alone to Seam's affections, despite carrying a torch for him. She's one of the few to support Maple after the accident and eventually she led the other ponies to see that Maple was hurting just as much if not more than they. When Maple leaves town she decides to share her gift as a travelling performer, quickly losing touch with him.
In the sequel: After several years travelling the road as a solo act she comes across a shop selling product from Maple's farm (name never decided) and decides to visit Ponyville. This was a second act for the story or perhaps even just a few chapters of cameo. She struggles with her own guilt of wanting to be with him despite having to leave as well as the fact she came to accept never being with him when he and Seam grew close

I'm sorry to hear the story's been cancelled, but I hope that you keep writing whatever you love!
3450011 honestly I might pick it up again someday, it's just doubtful.
As for writing in general. I do a few words every so often, just not enough at once on one story at any one time to actually post. My "graveyard" of fics is pretty impressive. A bunch of half chapter/fic proof of concepts that I just never get around to finishing.
