The First One was Better · 1:45am Sep 27th, 2015
I just…the title just says it all.
And yeah, while the first movie wasn’t all that great, it was a least watchable for some minor to good entertainment value in the jokes, fandom nods, and cheesy plot in the way that it framed a battle for a whole world in a high school prom setting.
EG3 was…ugh. If they never make another, I might be okay with that because of this movie. As long as Sunset finds her way to Equestria, because she needs to get the hell out of that land of brain dead monkeys.
The plot was lackluster, the humor next to nonexistent, and the main villain just made me go ‘huh?’ when it came to nearly everything about her reaction to the fact that magic existed. Not to mention human-Twilight’s actions. Sure EG humans are just plain stupid, but these ones lacked any sort of common sense.
Only good part was the last 15-20 minutes. If you want to watch the movie, just skip to that. You don’t need the buildup or anything else, because the movie is better off without it.
I'd write more, but...this POS isn't even worth it.
Gasp! a world devoid of the book of ecclesiastes? How did this travesty come to pass?
I like shows like "Greg the Bunny featuring Warren the Ape,""Looney Tunes," and "Irresponsible Captain Tylor," is this movie that kind of stumble bum slapstick stupid, or are we talking a Disney channel "Labrats," kind of stupid?
I watched the Blockbuster-Buster's review of some really awful recently made George lucas movie staring fairies... this movie wasn't quite that bad. And, I only saw the review of __that__ movie. Although, I HATE MUSICALS, and this movie reminded me of why I couldn't sit through more than half an hour of Les Miserables without wanting to throw up.
The story wasn't that bad. In my opinion, the only good musicals are 'the sound of music' and 'the music man,' and in those instances the story was better than both the performance and the musical numbers. Although, I guess I do like parody musical specials like the one in Supernatural. Even though I couldn't stand the one in Fringe. Music, like a good story, is meant to help the audience release and accept feelings they would otherwise keep private. The music in this movie does abso-loutely nothing more than make me want to cringe.
So, if you can't relate to the characters through the music, what you are left with is a couple of dumb moments in the story where Sunset Shimmer is blaming herself for things she has no control over. Because, someone in charge told her she was responsible and later she started blaming herself, and responsibility is obviously stupid. Then you have Twilight Sparkle being emotionally blackmailed until she becomes evil. Becasue that's how you make someone evil, as with Spike, when give the one outcast person you've been emotionally blackmailing the power to do what they want; they turn into uncontrollable 'ebil monsters so bad it's spelled with a B.
We, I'm glad I didn't see the movie...or the first two for the matter. Still its good to see your still around.
...Wow. Here I was looking forward to more of your Sunset Reset fic because I thought it had a genuinely interesting premise (if not having a really terrible prologue because everyone was horribly out of character but Chapter 1 made me want to read more) and seeing what you were up to and seeing this journal and just... Wow.
Having the complete 180 opinion on yours that this movie was just as much fun as Rainbow Rocks puts a real sour mood on wanting to read more of Sunset Reset now, because it feels like it's coming out of a place of malice rather than a fun alternate what-if. And reading something made with malice towards my favorite part of the entire franchise just makes me blanch.
This is why I have such a hard time getting into fanfiction in this fandom. Even when I find fics that interest me, something always ruins it.
the movie was wasted potential. They could have done so much more with it.
Bright side. Sunset is possibly an alicorn now.

I think your comment stinks of hypocrisy, everyone is for all intents and purposes motivated by self interest. It's the founding principal of economics, ethics, psychology, and philosophy. Secondly, nobody's characterization will ever truly reflect cannon sources unless the writer is bestowed with a resource bible that explicitly limits the interpretation of character, and even that's debatable given the presentation of Spike and Fluttershy within the show itself.
However, I know what you mean when you say the malace and contempt puts a sour mood on the author's interpretation of character. There are actors that just disgust me even though I know they are not the characters they play, like Jason Gordon Levitt or the actor that play's J.J. Abrams Reboot Spock. Still, you don't honestly think the parodies of Mad TV, Cracked, National Lampoon, and Saturday Night Live actually come from a place of metta continuity, if anything everyone involved is on a roman holiday.
Honestly, I completely disagree.
I found this to be the best of the EQG movies, for several reasons, but instead of listing those, I'll just respond to some of the parts of this post:
1. I was honestly VERY invested in this story. And I wouldn't say the plot was lackluster, but it was lower key than the other two movies. At least until the last 15-20 minutes, which, yes, IS the best part of the movie, but that part was what made me like it more than Rainbow Rocks overall, Up until that point, the two movies were pretty much neck and neck.
2. I found this to be the funniest of the movies, with my favorite bits in terms of comedy being Sugarcoat's bluntness and Sour Sweet's "flip-flopping" between personality modes. And of course, the bit at the very end of the movie, which is honestly one of the highlights of this entire series of movies.
4. Sci-Twi's actions make perfect sense. She did the things she did out of a desire to understand what was happening. I don't really see how that could be confusing.
5. The EQG humans aren't dumb. At least, not the humane 5. In their case, they're pretty much the early series versions of their pony counterparts. Which makes sense, considering that they didn't have a Twilight (or a Twilight-analogue) join their group until these movies.
And for the background characters', their behavior has always been inconsistent, whether it's in these OR in the main series.
6. In regards to your hopes of Sunset returning to Equestria, that's not going to happen. For several reasons, but the biggest of which is that she's found her place now, with the humane 6 (if we count Sci-Twi in that group now, which I do). There's no reason for her to go back to Equestria. And no, there's no "unfinished business" between her and Celestia. We can assume that at some point between these movies, Twilight updated Celestia on Sunset's situation. And the reason we didn't see it is because it's honestly not that important.
And in regards to whether or not they'remaking another one:
1. It's already been confirmed by now that there's at least a fourth one.
2. Even if I had made this comment closer to when the blog was originally posted, the chances of them not making a fourth movie were close to zero, since they'd have to follow up on that ending somehow.
