    Sincere Shilling!

If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

Anime: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

They Call Me Flightless Fury by ArgonMatrix

This is just part of a story. A little shard of something else. Well written, but left me wanting more. I’d recommend this, but it feels incomplete. Nice snapshot of a dragon’s mind though.

Play Me a Lullaby, Mommy! by aCB

This is a story that doesn’t have a lot of views. It’s nothing special, but managed to get a emotional reaction from me so it’s worth at least checking out. It falls into the ‘nothing really happens’ sub-category of slice-of-life. If you don’t mind stories that are just brief little snapshots of somepony’s life, you should check this out. It certainly deserves a little more attention than it’s gotten.

This has been on my to-read list for a long time. Decided to finally give it a read. It’s really good. A fairly sad kick to the gut, wonderfully written. Just a short little piece that had me wanting more. Not because I wanted more, but because part of me wanted there to be a solution. A happy ending that somehow makes the story brighter. Just need to copy/paste the artificial wings from Earth & Sky and everything will be fine. Anyway, if you want a sad fic involving Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, this is the story you should read.

Stargazing by Karrakaz

Another really short one. A moment between Celestia and Luna, back before Nightmare Moon. A look at how becoming rulers might have affected their relationship. Just a snapshot, but a decent one. I’d recommend it for anyone looking for some royal sisters fluff.

Gears in the Void by Lab
[story link] [my original review]

I’d call this a fairly standard human in Equestria story. Decent writing, but not great. It reminded me a lot of Project Sunflower. I liked that one better. It had a more interesting concept, but Gears was a bit better on the writing side. Not that it’s a great work of literature. The start kind of drags. The first 20% or so I was checking how far I had gotten semi-regularly, but I got from 20% to 50% without realizing it, and the story from the halfway point to the finale pretty much flew by. So it can carry you along if you let it. You just have to meet it 2/3rds of the way is all. Villain was a bit generic. If you didn’t like King Sombra, you probably won’t like this guy either. Was not really a person, but didn’t quite pull off force of nature either.

First bit of the review, it's about twice as long in the original post. I actually remember not liking this story as much as I apparently did. Not that I think about it much. It didn't leave much of a long term impression on me.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
