A decent story. Some good writing, a bit too much forced excitement. Fairly typical plot. Fluttershy and Big Mac’s first foal being born. I’d say this is fairly average fan fiction in tone, a bit above average in quality. Good enough that I’ll be getting around to reading the sequel sooner rather than later. Though the sequel currently holds the spot of longest story on my to read list. Which is why I haven’t gotten to it so far. Oh, the one bad bit about the writing is that this story has the worst Lavender Unicorn Syndrome I think I’ve ever seen. So if you are sensitive to that sort of thing, probably should avoid this one. I don’t mind it that much and even I had trouble telling which character was doing what in a scene or two.

Cool worldbuilding idea, cloud observatory. Plus the idea that Princess Celestia was preparing/hoping for Luna’s return. Aside from the prophecy/hero stuff. Just little things like building an observatory for her in the thousand years she was gone. As for the story, it’s a bit basic. Writing needs a bit of polishing. The random bits and pieces at the end would have been better arranged into some kind of order. Go ahead and read this if you are a big Princess Luna & Twilight Sparkle shipping fan, but otherwise you can give this a pass. However, reading it is okay too. I’d say this is about average in quality, and a bit shallow in theme and flavor.

Fun story and well executed. No real deep ideas or concepts, but a fun fluff piece. Call it a tasty popcorn fanfic. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a brief and light read.

This one was curious. I liked it and thought the author had some interesting stuff, but I’m not sure I would recommend it. The first third or half of the story is a fairly slow slog to get through. I almost didn’t finish it several times. It picks up at about the 60% point and the rest of the story was a much easier read.
This story has the worst case of lavender unicorn syndrome I’ve ever run across. Even at the end I sometimes struggled with who was speaking or doing things at any given point. It’s not so much that the ponies were referred to by their color, that would have been fine. The ponies would be indicated by their color, their mane, job, or even their emotional state once or twice.
I also really liked Fluttershy as presented in this story. She was using The Stare a bit too much, but her behavior as a mother with her foals was very nicely done. As was Pinkie Pie as a mother. All of the mane six were presented well enough that they were recognizable and felt like time had passed since the events of the series
Just bits and pieces of the review, lots more at the original post.

Short and not really a story exactly. Yet I’m always in favor of authors trying things like this. So this gets a recommendation. If you like short stories with little writing tricks in them, this is right in that category. I could tell something was off, but didn’t figure it out until the more-or-less giveaway at the end.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
