Religion.
I know that there are probably a lot of you out there that think a world doesn't need a system of beliefs.
And you'd be right; it's not completely necessary to have a church or any such thing.
The reason I have one is that even though a civilization doesn't need an organized religion to survive, most have one anyway. They form as a result of the people's desire to explain their world.
To put it simply, science describes the how of things.
Religion and faith describe the why of things.
That's my understanding anyway; without it, I just don't see meaning in things. And that extends to the world I'm creating.
