Have I improved? · 11:28pm Aug 29th, 2015
Fast as lightning, sharp as a sword
So, next month will be my one-year anniversary on Fimfiction. Looking back on my first story, I'd like to think I've improved as a writer since then. But something about that troubles me. Have I really improved my technique? And if I have, how so? Is it a noticeable change? Am I better now than when I wrote "The Gentle Dark"?
Or have I just been conforming to the standards of this website? Is there a certain way to write that people prefer that I've just been feeding people and making it seem like I'm that good? Have I just been giving people what they want, instead of actually improving? Of my top 5 highest-rated stories, four of them are only so well-rated because they're basically smut. And we all know how popular clop is on this site.
What do you guys think? Have you seen improvement in my writing over these many months? Or am I just doing what everyone wants me to do? I don't want any sugarcoating or stroking of my ego. Give it to me straight. Tell it like it is. Tell me the truth. Am I a better writer now, or am I just better at playing the game?
(On a slightly-ironic side note, Applejack's Steam story is done! Expect it to be submitted by tonight! )
Stay quick, stay sharp, and thanks for reading!
3356419 Until he realized how stupid it was.
Around 9pm central, 7pm eastern, and 10pm pacific?
I feel you're pain, man, I may have been slacking with writing but I don't know how to improve my technique and I constantly get bashed and they don't tell me what I'm doing wrong, I mean if you don't like it, than don't remind me, actually tell me what you didn't like.
3356420 What'd he say?
3356446 I thought he was talking about you.
3356448 He deleted it before I could see it.
3356461 Don't worry, I wasn't insulting you or anything
3356468 I just made a poorly written comment and made a joke at the end and he misinterpreted it
3356468 I know that. I thought you knew him for his former love for Spike At Your Service. Also, I think someone should chew the fat with me about the terrible talents of M. A. Larson, Columbia Pictures, Adam Sandler, Michael Bay, and Kevin James.

3356469 It's not a big deal or anything. I was just confused.
3356507 I agree on about half of those. So, maybe not the best person for the job . . .
I personally like the steam collection, a little saucy, yes, but not outright smut.
As for your works I think they have grown well as an author.
APPLEJACK!!? TONIGHT!!!!? CANT WAIT! CANT WAIT!!
3356510 The chew the fat idea?
3356527 Yeah. Larson has his hits and misses, as does Columbia. And Kevin James is okay. But Bay and Sandler are pretty much crap. So, yeah.
3356540 Where do you think they're going wrong?
3356544 Well, Sandler's just not funny to me. His sense of humor is inane and juvenile. And Bay doesn't have talent per se, he just reuses old tropes and stereotypes that don't work and just appeal to the "dude" factor. But that's just me.
3356561 I feel like Bay and Sandler try to make the same movie every time. If you want some context, for Sandler, watch Nostalgia Critic's review of Pixels, and for Bay, just look at the posters for transformers 3 and 4 back to back
3356561 As in your opinion. Also, imagine a film produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Columbia Pictures distributed by Touchstone Pictures in North America and Sony in the remaining international territories, or the other way around. The star being Adam Sandler, and the director being Steven Spielberg. How would you feel? Also, would Spielberg improve on Sandler's acting?
3356568 I'm not too fond of the Nostalgia Critic, either. Talk about the same thing every time . . .
3356571 A hypothetical situation could go one way or the other. Sandler's had successes too, however few and far between they may be. I just don't care for his work very much, that's all.
3356584 I get the idea. Also, are you planning on seeing Bridge Of Spies this October?
3356590 Never even heard of it.
3356598 Maybe this'll help, or maybe this.
3356613 Meh. Looks okay, I guess. Was never really into military films.
3356657 This may have some of those elements, but at least could be better than Saving Private Ryan.
I think you improved because when I read your earlier fics they didn't seem to have that much feeling but know when I read your fics I can tell you put so much feeling and heart into them that it just makes me want to read them over and over again.
I definitely think you've improved, even though I can't really think of any of your stories that I've read as being godawful. I've viewed them all as being great in their own regards.
