    Author update!

I'm editing stuff! But also incredibly dried out of writing power atm. I'll get going again soon, but just bear with me for a bit. I'm publishing a chapter of XCOM today, then start on the daily writing (not publishing) again tomorrow morning. In the meantime, always remember:

    Remembering Koji Wada

Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.

So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.

    Welp, here's a life update

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.

    Welp, another year older and...

...still writing ponies. (Among other things, granted.)

Update to the Isekai coming tonight! And some additional details and change of plans.

First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.

I should have blogged about this earlier but... · 2:15pm Aug 29th, 2015

Congratulations, Somber!

Man.

Project Horizons is complete!

Can you believe that? It's been a constant in Pony Fan Fiction since... well, like halfway through the original? It's been going longer than The Sweetie Chronicles, for at least 5 to 10 chapters, that's for sure! That's some serious dedication.

Besides the fact that I really loved the story, it's almost sad to see it finished. Not that I want Somber to keep writing Blackjack forever... okay, I do, but we have to be realistic. It's an epic story, and while it might not be everyone's cup of tea, it will forever remain a classic of the fandom.

So once again,

Congratulations, Somber!

I look forward to more of your stories!

It's complete!?

3355487 Sadly yes, its complete.

Now we wait for the inevitable arrival to FimFic.

3355513 Frankly I'm shocked it's not here now. Who even reads on gdocs anymore?

3355580 Given the sheer size of the thing, can you imagine trying to convert it?

3355599

It will be a major undertaking, to be sure...

Is the gdoc importer as bad as the epub downloader? If so I can't say I blame somber, that will be annoying to proof read the entire story. :twilightoops:

3355599 I can't imagine trying to read it on gdocs. And yes, I can imagine, it's only 77 chapters, that's not exactly impossible, just a little time consuming to do all at once. Which was why FoE did it once per day, less taxing then.

3355615 The importer is pretty good, you just have to watch for random chunks of dialog missing. I double check with a word counter website and make sure the final count on my doc matches up to the fimfic within 5-10 words (there tends to be some variance since fimfic counts parentheses as words...)

Can someone give me a basic summery of the ending? (hidden behind the Spoilers marker of course) I wanted to keep reading it but it just got so time consuming and dragged out by the time they went to the Enclave place that I'd stopped caring about it enough to keep reading, still interested to hear what happened to poor BJ

Well it was an interesting ending for an interesting story.

I'm also sort of hopeful for a continuation of the 'Broken Accords' story with Project Horizen finished and also for whatever other writings Somber might start writing.

3355627 It's over 2 million words.

3355734 Your point? Each chapter is already edited, all he has to do is import it and double check the word counts. If fimfic misses a chunk, it's really obvious with a quick scan. Hell, I bet if he asked he'd get plenty of volunteers to check each chapter for the missing chunks. Fimfiction is a much more pleasant experience than gdocs, it would be worth the effort for people who wish to read it.

3355790 You've ever imported a large file into fimfic? It won't just chop stuff up, it'll mess up formatting. That's why when I do TSC chapters, I just write the format in so I can copy paste it. If you import something that size you'll end up doing a LOT of extra work.

Started reading this monster of a story a little over month ago and I gotta say that even with all it's faults, Project Horizons is hands down one of the best fics I've read, even surpassing the original Fallout Equestria. I found myself getting attached to almost every character, which made their deaths all the more saddening, and Blackjack goes down as one my favourite OC's. Even though she's an angsty and inconsistent dumbass at times.

So yeah. I'm glad I decided to read it. There were things I didn't like and could've been done better, but that's just my opinion.

...

It's over...

...

I feel pretty fucking empty now...

...

Well, at least I still have Austraeoh series...

3355792 I have, actually. Key things to watch for are paragraph spacing errors (Usually caused by spacing while still in bold or italics. Fimfiction thinks those aren't really anything so it ignores them, leaving your paragraphs bunched up.) Of course because it sometimes misses chunks, if it missed your ending italic or bold it will make the whole rest of the doc that way.

None of these problems are insurmountable, simply a little time-consuming. It would be worth the effort.

I'm getting the impression you think large chapters are impossible to import, thus requiring manual formatting. That's not the case.

I may be in the minority here, but I'm more a fan of Somber's short stories. So the question on my mind is, what will his next project be?

3355928 I think he blogged a couple of his ideas?

3355928

If nothing else, the end of the story had more hooks than the average fishing opener*. I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote a few sequels/side stories here and there over the next few years. I think the Author's Notes at the end mentioned something about that.

*Not meant as a criticism. I appreciate a good hook, it means I get to continue thinking about a story well after it's done

Despite everything, I still cant bring myself to really get into it. Goldblood, if I recall the name right, ruins it for me entirely. He just seems to make everything everyone in pre-wasteland Equestria does seem pointless.

Im glad someone with a credible opiniom enjoyed it. I loved pretty much every minuet of it. That said I would have been a bit happier if it ended with Congntium. The whole legate and star thing was both rushed and kind of tacked on feeling.

That and any story that can give you a line like Goldenblood's "Three most important things" is a winner.

Now it just needs to get onto fimfiction and then I'll be able to read it and not lose my place any time I close the window!

3466261 It is already on Fimfiction. :derpytongue2: It's Mature tho, if you have that turned off.

3466262 Really? Nice. I'll definitely check it out then.
Edit: Once I've found successfully found it, that is.
