What I can't decide is if I want it to be anthro or pony. It's something to fap off to, but I think it might also be something to care about also.
So... thoughts? Or should I just drop this.

I would say pony , as I tend to care less about anthro , associating it with pointless clop .
I believe that you have the skill to pull it off anyway , so let's have a real story with some good clop and characters we can care for.
There's nothing wrong at all with writing clop, sir.
If you're very torn between anthro and pony, really the best way to decide is to consider how beneficial fingers would be to achieving the results you desire. If they would add to the clopping experience, then go with anthro, if not then it's fine to stay with pony. Also, breasts. I keep forgetting that's a thing that matters to most other people.

Ponies are cute. Humans are cool. Combining them don't give you cool and cute, rather you get abominations so deep into the uncanny valley that it's not even funny anymore. If I saw one of those things outside my window I would run for my baseball bat and then curl up in a ball in a corner; shivering.
Pony please. I refuse to read anthro stories. The ponies aren't anthros and with the exception of a few stories that include the transformation as part of the plot, its really just an excuse for the ponies to be sexy and human-ish rather than full human or full pony. And nearly every time there is no reason for it.

I tend to find pony, and to a lesser extent human (Depends on the context: EQG or doing something interesting with them being human? Good. Everyone is randomly human for no reason, and it doesn't really make a difference anyway? Bad.), to be easier to take seriously than anthro, from a story and character perspective anyway. So I'd say pony.
Also, I have a gut feeling that more people would have squick/moral problems with underaged anthros than ponies. But that's just a guess.

Anthro stuff is not my cuppa. Clop stuff is definitely not my cuppa. Clop and anthro? I am certain it will be well written from a technical standpoint, but I will be giving this a miss.

I don't mind furry artwork and aesthetic. It's natural to me because I grew up watching Disney movies (the ruination of a generation!) so generally speaking I don't mind anthro stuff.
But for some reason anthro ponies are creepy as hell to me. It's just... anthro is a thing, and ponies are a thing, and they're both good things, so why mix them??
Again, that's just me. It's almost an uncanny valley effect for me and I don't know why.
