The Annual August Adventure · 8:04pm Aug 5th, 2015
Well folks! It's that time of year for me to get the hell on a plane and go to Baltimore. BronyCon is upon us, which means several things: friends, friends, more friends, a boatload of autographs, and probably a bunch of art. I'm looking forward to yet another year of attendance, and I hope to see many of you gracing the halls of the convention center.
On the writing front, after quite a round of internal deliberation, I've come up with what I presume to be the final seven Arc 3 installments of A State of Darkness. In case anyone is interested in the list, there it be:
Installment 20 – The Castle’s Call
Installment 21 – Defending the Blitzkrieg
Installment 22 – A Bishop’s Crucifixion
Installment 23 – A Fallen Horse
Installment 24 – Thy Kingdom Come
Installment 25 – The Bright Sea Maneuver
Installment 26 – A Nightmare’s Reverie
I'm genuinely not sure if the series will continue with a fourth arc. Things are already substantially longer than I thought they would be. When I started, I didn't even really have a plan to make a periodical. I was inspired to write something, threw down 3000 words, and called it a night. The seeds were certainly there to continue from the get go, but I wasn't sure I'd have the time to jump into it. When I was wrapping up the first arc, I didn't really know what I wanted to do either. I had some snippet of a notion that it might be cool to ponify Lichlos - the longtime nemesis of Wing, but engagements between those two characters are pretty verbose. Let me put it like this. Lichlos, Trigger, and Wing have existed as characters for over two decades. They have also always been on opposing sides of whatever conflict I had imagined. Installment 19 of this series is the first time that Trigger and Lichlos have even been in the same room at the same time.
The seed was planted, and Arc 2 did the job of giving a little hint of a backstory that hurled me into the Game. That being said, I'm super excited about 20-26. I want it to be everything that I've imagined it to be, but... I'm not sure if there will be anything to follow. The joy and curse of a story such as this is that I can always DBZ it. I can always fabricate another enemy or another problem, but ... if it's not captivating or interesting, then there isn't much point. I seem to be already having trouble captivating a wider readership, so the thought of an Arc 4 - at least at this moment - comes off as a bit daunting. Then again, I've always created when my imagination has been an active little shit. Not even I know if it will opt to spew out another segment for consumption. Either way, the door is open. :P
