A fic recommendation happens rarely here, but mainly because I don't like to advertise fics that get good exposure already, and because those that don't... generally raise my ire rather than my attention.
That said, this entry into a contest I held with not many participants (hopefully getting better the next time), had a sole entry that actually deserved winning place. Below is an excerpt of my assessment of the fic.
Though the entry was the one and only entry, the story was well constructed, had minimal grammatical and stylistic errors and contained a very good deconstruction of the prompt with a brilliantly paced storyline.
The best part about this story is the natural flow I felt when reading this entry. HapHazred has some good execution in characterisation, showing off the different ways that ponies can become stressed in their day to day lifestyles, something that is often shown in the main show, but often not exactly best executed. This story is small, concise and gets to the point without meandering through the plot.
I can honestly say I enjoyed reading this fic, because it featured Twilight, a pony I write about extensively, but in character and going about her business true to Slice of Life. Where the fic centres around interaction more than plot.
I would like to add that a letter to Princess Celestia is something I miss in stories and is somewhat nostalgic, so there's bonus points there.
I would also like to give props to HapHazred for also declining the prize and making his only request be that I post a blog about this fic, which this author thoroughly deserves. Congratulations!
