    Sorry all

It's been too long since I've posted anything here. I apologize. Short explanation is that I have had a severe set back with my depression that caused me to go in partial hospitalization and quit my job. So I'm very much floating along until I can find something that works for me.

More TrenderDash . . . Because I can! · 2:47am Jul 12th, 2015

I suck at mares, but, here you go. :derpytongue2: All the artistic ability of a kindergartner.

In my messed up, crazy shipper world where TrenderDash is a thing, I have my own headcanon. Rainbow's mother left her and her father when she was just a filly. She pretty much said, "I had an urgent business meeting come up. I'll be home soon." Then she left and never came back. That's my explanation for why Rainbow Dash values loyalty so highly.

When she starts to date Trend, she becomes very attached to him. Of course she was attached to him when they were exchanging letters, but ever since they became a couple she's found it very hard to say goodbye. Early in their relationship, Rainbow had a problem of being far too clingy to Trend when he took her out on dates, scared to death he was only playing around with her and would leave her when a "better" mare came along. Trend takes their relationship seriously and would never leaver her like that. Rainbow's doubt worries him to no end, but he eventually helps her overcome it.

However, after they're married and she gets pregnant, this issue resurfaced full force. She can't help but think back to her mother leaving her whenever Trend has to leave on a business trip. There's nothing that scares her quite as much as the thought of their child growing up without him in his/her life. Trend's absolutely loyal to Rainbow and wants the same as she does, but convincing her of that is a difficult and highly emotional ride.

Tickets, paper, quills, camera. Trend jerked a nod of approval, closing the briefcase in his lavender magic. "All set," he whispered. His eyes drifted to Rainbow Dash, still fast asleep in bed. He hated leaving without saying goodbye, but, last time he woke her up, they had argued for over an hour about the necessity of leaving. Honestly, it's just a business trip. She knows I'm a traveling writer. I can only write so many articles at home . . .

Now that he had settled down in Ponyville, those trips had thankfully been few and far between. However, this trip had been postponed as long as he possibly could. With the Magazine breathing down his neck and the deadlines, there was no other options. And yet . . . the very thought of leaving his pregnant wife alone for a month made him cringe. Though the right age to start having foals, Rainbow had proven to be a nervous wreck about the whole situation.

Sighing, he strode over to the bed, brushing aside her forelock with a hoof. He started when she blinked awake. "Trend? Are you going now?"

Please don't freak out! "Yeah, the train's leaving in half an hour."

She shot up out of bed, jumping to her hooves a few inches from his muzzle. "Seriously? Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"

"Er . . ."

"Er what?"

"Just didn't want you to worry," he supplied, fidgeting with his choker.

Rainbow's jaw grew tight. "I'm always worried, Trend." Her hoof struck the floor, having little more effect on the cloud then sending up a few wisps. "And you not waking me up makes me even more worried! You weren't going to say goodbye? Would you rather just up and leave while I'm asleep?"

Not this again. "Rainbow, I told you over and over, I'm not leaving you!"

"That's what she said. And look what happened!"

"I'm not your mother, I'm coming back. Plus," he jerked a nod at the briefcase, "I'll be writing you a bunch of letters just like always."

Rainbow's eyes began to fill with tears and he knew he screwed up again. "Letters? So you'll send me letters? I suppose you'll send the baby letters after you've gone and left us alone then!"

Trend rested his head on hers, hushing her softly. "I'm not leaving you and I'll be there for the baby, you know I will. So, don't worry so much. Just relax and fun with your friends until I get home."

"But-but I need you here!"

"Rainbow, the foal's not coming for months. I'll only be gone one month. Then, I'll be right back by your side the rest of the time," he crooned, stroking her mane. "And, I'll be thinking of you every minute I'm gone, you know I will."

"Ye-yeah . . ."

Trend gave her a long, slow kiss on the muzzle, before stepping away. "Goodbye, Dear. I'll be back soon, okay?"

"Okay." She waved weakly. "Be safe."

"I will." He smiled encouragingly at her. "Love you."

"Love you too."

Wow, I never thought of this ship before! Is this going to be a story? :pinkiehappy:

I don't think I've seen this shipping before XD. I approve.

What do you use to color your pictures? I need to know because all my coloring looks like a scribble (and that might be because of the materials I use). You get it to look so clean... I NEED TO KNOW!

Nice job! I like your style of ponies. :pinkiegasp:

Hullo! Just a question, whens the Trenderdash competition going to be over?

Aww. That's a good slice of a story there.

It's realistic, too, in the sense that sometimes issues from one generation turn into fears that get projected onto the next.... :raritycry:

3230120 It is, but not for a while yet. I'm swamped with stories at the moment. I've got plans to write a short-ish story about how their relationship started via letters, but I've got serious writer's block on it.

Hmmm. Let's see. I do all my art on smooth sketch paper (not the rough stuff or printer paper) because I think it helps the colors blend better and there's not as many defects in the smooth sketch paper. As for pencils, I used to use ye old Crayolas left over from my Elementary school days. But those SUCK and they don't blend with crap, so I bought myself some nicer pencils. My current ones I work with are Artist Loft colored pencils. They're okay, but really light, so I have to color pretty hard to make them show up enough on my scans. BUT, they do blend like a million times better than Crayolas, so I think they're acceptable. The ones I ADORE are old colored pencils my Dad gave me, the good stuff. They're Prismacolor Scholar pencils, and man do they color beautifully! So vivid, erase pretty well, and they blend amazing. However, I only have like 19 and they're too expensive to justify buying a whole new set right after I bought the Artist Loft ones. Definitely on my birthday wish though. XD

As far as technique, I start by inking in my drawing, then erasing the pencil lines completely with my white eraser. I have Prismacolor pens I use for inking (I have a pack with various sizes), but Sharpie sells a nice fine point pen that I had been using to ink. The Sharpie's not amazing (it fades a little when you erase the pencil lines), but it's a LOT more affordable than the ones I use. They were a gift, so that's how I got mine. The inking's really important for the coloring technique I use, so it's an essential step.

Anywho, after inking, I then do a base color. Lightly coloring the area with the color I eventually want using horizontal and vertical lines. Then, I do a second coat, again with the horizontal and vertical lines, this time coloring hard enough to cover over most of the white (there's always a little showing and I have yet to figure out how to fix that). After that's done (it takes a LONG time), then you can move on to blending.

The video I learned this technique from used white colored pencils to blend. I did that for a while myself, and it worked fairly well. But, I invested in a blending pen (all of $4 at the craft store), and it's been wonderful. The pen uses an alcohol base to really blend the wax and give a watercolor look to the picture. You do have to be careful to "clean" the tip between colors and to not overdo it (or you will soak/ruin the picture). Whatever tool I use, I use diagonal lines when blending and that helps get rid of the horizontal/vertical lines you used before. After that, I put another light coat using those horizontal/vertical lines. Then I use a cloth (AKA an old sock because I'm cheap) and rub the colored area in a circular motion. After that, I erase the stray colored pencil stuff that escaped my ink boundaries (another reason why the good pencils are worth it, they erase to a certain extent as opposed to Crayola). Once that's done, I do a final coat to top off the picture.

This is why it takes me 5 hours to do a traditional art scene. :twilightoops:

3230223 Submissions are due on July 12th. Though, I won't start judging them until like noon on Monday. Sooo, as long as I have them by then, I'll consider them valid entries. I'm a pretty lax gal when it comes to deadlines.

Cool, nice to know. >.> I totally don't hope my wins.

I cant wait to see this become it's own story

You're right. Twilight, you know nothing.

3230232 Oh wow! thanks. LOL you didn't have to send me your entire process but thanks! I've been needing to make my colors more solid and bright. So, can I get the blending pens you speak of at a store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby?

3231670 Yup. ^^ I got mine at Michael's, but I'm sure Hobby Lobby would have them too.
