So, here it is...
The first chapter for the promised prequel/parallel fic to Princess of Shadows, Darkness, and Light.
Now, I know what you're all thinking. Where's the Twidash? Where's the adventure? Why is Blueblood, of all ponies, in the first bloody chapter? Well, I'll answer these questions, and any others that won't give away too much of either story.
First of all, the Twidash is coming, next chapter. Same goes for the adventure.
Now, as to Bluebitch...
There are several reasons why he, of all ponies, is here. First one is because he makes a great punching bag. Yeah, I know. Sorry for those of you that actually like Blueblood.
The second one is that I needed some way to actually show the rather unusual political system in my little AU. What better way than to get rid of a heartily despised character first thing? (I'd have used Flash Sentry, but he's stuck in the Crystal Empire. He plays into things a little, though mostly because ponies expect that when Twilight is in the Crystal Empire, Flash should be somewhere nearby). Blueblood's punishment and subsequent exile to Ponyville help to illustrate some of what I've done in regards to how ponies view Twilight. Not everypony in Equestria is happy with Twilight Sparkle becoming an alicorn.
The final reason is that Blueblood is actually descended from Blueblood the XVIII, who was the last of the line to have any ties to Platinum's Throne. Most of the unicorn nobles have some tie to the family, though there are only four direct descendants at the current time. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which is which (it doesn't take a genius)
I really struggled with getting this chapter out. Even though the scene played well, it didn't write that way. In any case, this isn't the last political chapter you'll have to muck through, as there's going to be quite a bit as Twilight starts her quest. It's all necessary, as this is part of Twilight proving she's ready for her new role.
I'm probably going to start on the next chapter soon. I'm really looking forward to seeing Rainbow struggling with both her unrequited feelings for our adorkable princess, and that strange dream. I'm also looking forward to that awkward conversation, when Twilight realizes that a pegasus is casting unicorn-magic based spells....
Yeah, it's going to be Pinkie Pie levels of strange...
He's right, it's gonna be a blast!!
