    Some OC Questions

Hey, all! This is a meme by gilgamemesh I've seen around Tumblr, and since I haven't gotten any asks about it there, I thought I'd post it here! Here's how it works: pick a number or multiple numbers from the list, post it/them in the comments, and in about a week or so (depending on how many asks I get), I'll post a follow-up blog about it! And if two people ask about the same number, that's

"Sisters at Heart" Speculation · 11:20pm Jun 9th, 2015

Hello, everyone!

I know you still haven't had any updates from me lately, but I'm working on things, I promise! One of those things is editing a wonderful and sweet story by the amazing Lunatone. His story is called Sisters at Heart, and definitely deserves a read. Before I get to the speculation/spoiler stuff, let me give a brief overview of the story itself. Octavia and Vinyl Scratch are growing up together in a shared home along with their fathers Jazzmere and Dusty. As such, they grow up as sisters, encouraging each other and loving each other. But as time goes on, this love turns from a typical family love to a romantic love.

Now, here's the spoiler part. If you haven't already, I would highly recommend reading the story before reading this, both because I wouldn't want to spoil the story for anyone, and because this bit of speculation might not have the same impact without being familiar with the story and its characters.

So, delving further into what goes on in the story and the speculation... Octavia and Jazzmere have a very complicated relationship. Octavia desperately seeks his approval in many matters, but Jazzmere is so mercurial that Octavia is never sure if he has granted it. This puts a lot of strain on young Octavia, and she is never comfortable around him.

It is also mentioned in the story that Jazzmere and Dusty grew up together in a shared home, just as Octavia and Vinyl Scratch have. Even before their romance started to blossom, Octavia and Vinyl would be taunted by ponies as they walked down the streets. They would be harassed and bullied for even potentially being a couple even though it was not yet true. And when Octavia asked Jazzmere how he would feel about Octavia and Vinyl being a couple, he was disgusted and flat-out refused the idea. Octavia is devastated.

Jump ahead a bit to Octavia's birthday party. A bully named Bulldozer, in retaliation for the mares defending themselves against him, publicly outs Octavia and Vinyl's relationship. Jazzmere refuses to believe it at first, knowing that Bulldozer is nothing short of crass. However, Octavia finally tells him the truth and declares her love for Vinyl. Jazzmere is livid, and it's hard to say if he will ever forgive his daughter for this.

You might be asking yourself, why is all of this relevant? Well I had a theory as to why Jazzmere reacted the way he did. Since he and Dusty also grew up together, one has to assume that they are, or at least were, close friends. It is entirely possible that he and Dusty were taunted and tormented as Octavia and Vinyl once were and that accusations of he and Dusty being a couple had flown their way. Those claims would have been utterly false and could very well have been enough to anger Jazzmere and send him over the edge. It is possible that he has since internalized some of this hatred and is now taking it out on his own daughter. An overreaction, perhaps, but still possible. Of course, this is just what I think. I'd love to hear your thoughts or if you agree or disagree. Especially you, Lunatone, when you see this.

Until next time, my friends!
